right - this is war...
it's me and my er... army (i.e. a spade and a rake) against...
those pesky foxes.
got up this morning and the b*stards had dug two big holes in the lawn, dug up a plant and appeared to have kipped on top of my lavender, busting off a few branches from it. i've got used to them coming in and rooting around a bit, but this is going too far.
those foxes better watch out. they better sleep with one eye open from now on. they better fear for the safety of their wives and children. when the knock comes on the door, they'll know it's their time...
anyone fancy organising a hunt in my back garden?

i'd like to know what is under my lawn that is worth digging a foot deep hole to get at?
afaics there's only earth under there.
also, the gardens on either side of mine are pretty much wilderness. do they spend all night larking about in there? do they conduct major excavation operations in those jungles?
do they f*ck...

Awww, leave those cute little foxes alone. They should n't be hunted because it is cruel and barbaric. If you pay the local vermin control a huge sum of money they will come round and humanely discourage them from your garden.

It could be scent marking. They sometimes dig up a bit of earth then spray it! Stick your nose in the hole and see if you can smell fox musk!
They also dig for worms, as do badgers!

LOL
Had foxes in our garden (!!! small table tennis table sized!!!) in Roman Road area of East London. Cr'pping on the lawn & digging small holes (only small bit of grass!). Most anoying thing tho' was when they played in next door's garden 'cos it was all shingle - made a terrible noise & woke you up.
Just had Ez so the prospect of small girl crawling around the garden which foxes used as their toilet didn't appeal. So rang up the council...
Puff - Environmental Control please (Tower Hamlets)
EC - Hello
Puff - There's foxes in our garden using it as a toilet and we have a small daughter & we don't wish for her to get some dodgy diesease from their faeces. Can you do something about them?
EC - 'fraid not
Puff - So what can I do?
EC - Nothing really (gives me number of "Fox Charity" premium rate hotline for tips on how to live in close natural love and understanding with foxes)
Puff - Well, can I shoot them?
EC - Of course you can't!!!
Puff - They're not protected are they?
EC - No, but you can't shoot them - its illegal.
Puff - But it would be all right if I got in a hunt & dogs to come and deal with it? Thats legal.
EC - <defeated silence>
At which point I left the conversation savouring in my mind's eye the concept of a full hunt, with dogs, horses & people in red coats clattering down the Roman Road in search of my foxes
(I just built a much higher fence to stop them jumping over)

LOL@ Puff!
They were of course talking out of their bums though. It is not illegal to shoot foxes, but clearly you need a tightly choked shotgun with at least no. 4 shot or better still a rifle to ensure a clean kill. Due to the close proximity of your neighbours, however, discharging firearms in your garden could have been a bit iffy with Her Majesty's constabulary!
