Women's mountain bikes
#3
Mountain Bike Rider and Singletrack have both done women's-specific bike tests in recent months (in fact, Singletrack - you'll be able to find it in bigger WH Smiths - tested these in the latest issue).
The Contessa is meant to be OK, but it all depends on how she finds it. If she's got small hands etc, then the specific features of the bike (smaller brake levers, narrower bars) will make sense, but if she's (say) 5' 6" or above, it may be that a small-frame men's bike offers better choice and value.
Overall, the Scott is, so I understand, a good bike but not exceptional. If it's let down by anything it's the fork (assuming you're looking at the Contessa 20, which is the biggest seller), the Judy XC, which is OK but far from exceptional. Everything else is there or thereabouts.
Now if you're talking about the Genius Contessa, that's another matter. Genuinely excellent full susser, but at £1600 it should be!
