Cool Musicians - Accoustic Guitar Advice

Hi all,

I've got a Takamine G Series 6 string accoustic and I've been using it solidly to gig for the last 5 years or so. It's getting pretty worn and could really do with some fret work as the top E is buzzing and the sound is not as bright as it should be (you can see the fret wear clearly).

It's my pride and joy and I don't mind spending to get the job done properly. Trouble is, there are many hamfisted cowboy music shops around here who are notorious for taking in guitars for repair and handing back useless planks of wood with 6 strings nailed to 'em !!

Can anyone recommend a decent place to sort it out. I am in North Wales, close to Chester but I'm happy to travel....(not sure about posting it anywhere!!).

Any help welcome.....thx in advance

blubs,

although you say you don't mind travelling I suspect MusicGround in Doncaster will be a bit too far. Still, they are excellent at repairs/renovations etc. They've done some similar work on my 1982 strat (well worn (twice!) as you can imagine!)

Give Max a call on 01942 745631 he is in Leigh, near Wigan

Very good, fixed a broken bridge on a 12 string for me

and very good prices too, he works out of Johnny Roadhouse in Manchester, but he is cheaper if you go direct

Hey Blubs - why don't you give the strings department at the RNCM (Royal Northern College of Music) in Manchester. I guarantee they'll know the best people in the NW and the strings secretary is usually a helpful ex-student.
Been too long since I graduated from there to give you any names!

Dont bother with Doncaster - I know the bloke they'll send the guitar to. He's in here in Lincoln.

Let me know if you want to make use of him and I can give you his contact details.

Ian

Johnny Roadhouse is literally across the road from the RNCM , and they use Max whose details I posted up earlier

Unless RNCM do stuff in house, then my guess is that they use Max
