But at a guess, you should figure on 10 million plus. Planning permission might be a problem too.

Laugharne Castle (near Carmarthen) was recently sold as part of the sale of Castle House. Although you technically own the castle, it's cared for and maintained by CADW, a sort of Welsh national heritage body, and you can't do much to it.
It went for somewhere in the region of £700,000, which isn't bad for a pile of bricks
I'll post a pic later to show you what you missed

it's not a proper castle without moat, portcullis and battlements (sorry, crenelations )..
and those slitty windows for you to fire arrows at the damn junk mail delivery boy!
And don't forget to check your spiral staircase goes the right way - if it doesn't you won't be able to defend properly with your sword.
(thats actually true - as most people are/were right handed the stairs spiral to your right as you go up them - that's so that as an attacker you can't get a good swing with your sword as you advance up the stairs, whereas the defender who is facing down the stairs gets a full wide swing at you.. Think about it if you don't believe me! )

We lookeda at this one, which didn't need too much work doing on it. It's a little over priced and has been on the market for a while so you'd probably be able to negotiate them down a bit.

Yeah, but look at the price. Our initial thoughts were the same as yours but to be fair it's not quite as bad as it looks and could make a great Boutique hotel if you knew what you were doing.
