Speeding advice needed
on behalf of a friend I thought I'd ask the all knowing scoobynet....
Friend got an NIP on the 14th May for an offence on 9th May. Was doing 98 in 70mph zone on duel carriage A road
Friend is now concerned that he's heard nothing for 7 weeks now, is that too long for a fixed penaulty to be issued? or is he likely to get a court summons instead?
Driver has clean licence (1 SP30 5 years ago) and is a HGV class1 driver.
I'd appreciate anyones opinion/experience

so long as they get the NIP to you within 14 days, they can take as long as they like before actually proceeding with the prosecution.

Normal guideline is:
up to 25 mph over - 3 pts and a fine
25 to 30 mph over - 6 points and a fine
over 30 mph over - ban and a fine
of course all depends on circumstances and the magistrates on the day - there doesn't seem to be any parity when it gets to court!! Its

As said above, 14 days for NIP and then don't hold your breath - took the powers that be 6 months to finally summons me quite a few years back
ended up with 6 points + fine but got out of a ban

the time limit is that the points must be on the licence within 9 months, if he's a HGV1 driver then he'll never get banned no matter how many points he'll ever get due to hardship, a mate i know has got 17 points cos he's also a HGV driver.

Don't worry about it though, the points are on for four years from the date of offence. So the longer they take to prosecute, the less time you spend with points on your licence They finally gave me my last three in the july, from a picture taken in November
