Ok, so I was bored...
I was eating some Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream yesterday (Phish Food) when a thought struck me:
How come food is usually measured in weight, but Ice Cream is measured in ML?
If it's because it's a frozen liquid, why isn't a bag of Ice cubes measured in ML too: 1kg=1L
Also - why aren't choc ices measure in Ml if a tub of ice cream is?
I'm sure there's an obvious answer to this epoch making question. Would someone furnish me with it please?

Probably because the density of ice cream is not the same as water and it will vary depending on if it is cream, milk or yoghurt based, or even sorbet. It will also no doubt be containered up whilst still mostly liquid (if rather thick) and it is easier to just fill a container of a given volume than worry about how much it weighs.

Bit like cereal - that's never sold by volume, as by the time it's settled, it takes up a lot less room than when it is packed.
I like Golden Nuggets, i do.
