Garden Bonfires!!!
Whats the rules & regs regarding bonfires in your garden?
We've got some numb nut that lives behind us, who obvioulsy likes the smell of them and always seems to do them when we put the washing on the line during the day
From memory, I didn't think you could do them till after 18.00, but who do you complain to if there done before then? I was very tempted to slap the silly git or at the least put the hose pipe on it ..... Not wise I know as it'll just smoke more!

Its a local council thing.
Unless you live in a rural area I find them inconsiderate. There are tips for your rubbish - burning it is only cool on 5th November.
Peoples washing on the line stinks, ash all over your cars etc etc.
Ring the council and they'll go round with a hot poker and ram it up there guy forks.

Ask your local council. It may be a smoke free zone or there may be local bylaws.
In addition:
In addition:
The Environmental Protection Act 1990 allows the Council to take action against any person having a bonfire that produces smoke on a frequent or persistent basis or which interferes substantially with a persons wellbeing at home. An abatement notice may be served to the person responsible for such persistent bonfires with the potential for heavy fines for non-compliance.

my uncle once recieved a nasty latter saying if he lit another fire in his garden he would be fined a hefty some of cash. Not sure if there is a rule that you have to be a certain distance from the road (the fire that is). And if you light one when people have got their washing out. prepare for world war 3!!!!!!

Depends on your local council.
If it is a nuisance & especially if they are burning off anything other than garden refuse then call the council enviromental health hotline.
The fire service have no right to intervene as long as the fire is in no danger of spreading & the occupier has a decent means of extinguishing it.

it's only a bonfire!
i often have fires in my back garden - it's a lot easier than dragging a load of tree branches through the house.
however, i have them on dull or slightly wet days, late on in the evening. if the neighbours have washing out then i don't light it. yeah, it makes a bit of smoke, but so do the knackered old oil burners driving up and down the street.
live and let live, eh?

hydrogen cyanide = death
particulates = lung disease
heavy metals = lung disease, kidney disease, nervous system, oh and death!
