At last common sense prevails
If the school has a school uniform then it should apply to ALL pupils no mater what race creed or colour.
http://www.sky.com/skynews/article/0...129618,00.html
Also this girl has basically bunked school for over a year why has nothing been done by the authorities to get her bck to school or prosecuted?
If she was white English girl instead of a Muslim English girl she would have been in the **** with the education authority by now.
Well done to the British Justice system for fiinally having the ***** to stand up to religious bull**** brigade, "You're in England! you will wear English school Uniform" it is about time someone told the Muslims they had to fit in to our society rather than us modify ours to suit them.
Shabina's solicitor-advocate Yvonne Spencer argued that the school's ban on her chosen Islamic attire amounted to "constructive exclusion" and breached both domestic law and the European Convention on Human Rights.
But Simon Birks, appearing for the school, said Denbigh was a multi-cultural and multi-faith secular school. Shabina had not been excluded but had chosen to stay away, he maintained.
Flame suit well and truely tightened.

At last a stand against the pc brigade has been made!
Religion is not an excuse/reason to change rules. If she wants to wear that attire then she needs to find a Muslim school to go to or find another school that has no school uniform and lets their pupils wear what they want. Simple.
Its people like her who are making this country a joke, demanding changes in culture just to suit there own beliefs
We are not a Muslim country and so Muslim beliefs should not be allowed to change the culture of this country no matter how loud they shout If you don't like the rules go somewhere where the rules suit you - simple.
No flame suit required cos I couldn't give a flying monkeys about the pc brigades reasoning, it has no strength as far as i'm concerned.

Stupid cow. The entire point of school uniform AIUI is to make all kids equal.
As for denying her the right to education - I thought that it was HER choice to stay away as she couldn't wear what SHE wanted?
Isn't Rastafarianism a religion? What next, the right to wear yellow green and red wooly hats?
Talk about abuse of the legal system.

Exactly. Problem is, its stupid bints like her that give other minorities (that are happy to live by our culture and abide our rules) a bad name and thus causes discrimination.

As a God-squad do-gooder I whole heartedly agree that integration is the key.
most people (migrants or the like) want integration as opposed to segregation.
a uniform is a uniform and serves a valid purpose of a) identification
b) levelling the playing field accross the student population.
Im affraid this is very much the case of a chav looking for excuses and trying it on with the system.
unfortunately many more schools will have buckled before the court stage.

Peanuts,
I don't agree mate, if they want integration then make the feckin effort to integrate. This sort if thing is a classic example surely?
Kick off and make a fuss.. why? because they can, and 9 times out of 10 will get away with it.
Senior.. i saw that too mate.. it's getting beyond a joke
Before anyone starts calling me a racist.. i have no problem whatsoever with other races & religions living in the UK. However, i do have a problem with them coming here and trying to bend the laws and regulations to suit them!

However it was a good decision! Especially as I'm still anoyed that my mate, who's parents were Jehovas', never had to endure the banality of our school's religious assembly. I never was and never will be religious, yet it was shoved down MY throat! School must be a religious free zone.

Did any of you know that the school in question is a has an 80% Muslim pupil count? And did you know that it already has a diverse and inclusive dress code policy? And did you know that the courts decision was based in the main on health and safety grounds?
I wish some people on here would read into stuff before launching into their usual "anti-PC brigade" diatribe ...
Oh, and I do agree with the court's decision.

Yeah I agree! These people take the mick. They come to england and expect us to bend over backwards and take it up the ar$e and be submissive to their demands! As others have rightly said, this is england, our nation! They should not expect us to chnage the entire fecking country just because it does not fit in line with their religeous beliefs.
Fair enough they can do as they wish in their own homes and communities etc, but expecting us to change the law and the way OUR culture is, is plain WRONG!

Feckin' 'ell we're off again Go to any country in the world (Australia, Spain, Saudi, Dubai, France & Portugal immediately spring to mind) and you will find the British in their own little enclaves trying desperately not to integrate into 'Johnny Foreigner's society. Yet it happens over here and we're up in arms.
When it boils down to it, for the last few centuries the English have f*cked people of every race, creed, colour & religion over, for whatever bit of land they had & we wanted. It's time we just faced up to the fact that we are merely reaping that which our forefathers sowed.
BTW I am English & proud of it, and I do agree with the courts decision
PS: It's a good job this flame suit is comfy

School uniform should be race/religion neutral.
so the 80% muslims get to wear what the **** they like and the other 20% get to wear school uniform because they are not religeous.
They should make every school kid wear a school uniform then no body would be any better or worse than anyone else.
When I was at school we also had to wear shoes not trainers or anything else, it meant there could be no distinctions between the rich kids with 100 pound designer trainers and the poor kid with Tesco pumps.

thats different thou, it not that they are attempting to not intergrate, it that they expect us to change our country for them!!!! which is not right.

BTW: had to laugh at this thread. I've just read the "Radar detectors in France" thread, where people in the majority seemed to think it wrong of the French to expect us to obey one of THEIR laws.......................

Only 25 posts, and a priceless thread already...
If the school has an 80% Muslim population, why does she suddenly ask to come in DIFFERENT from all the others? As stated in the article, it's going to be "I'm a better Muslim than you". That is what uniform tries to avoid.
Clue - that's why it's called "uniform"....

The schools governers consulted members of the local muslim community, parents of other kids etc and decided not to permit it. The girl's parents then decided not to accept the decision and challenge it in court. I think it's sad that they decided to do that instead of leave the decision making at local level. But the fact they opted for litigation is typical of modern Britain, so perhaps they are integrating in their own way

One of my best friends live with a muslim and has a baby with him. She always gets moaned out about inappropriate clothing for the baby and is told when she visits their house she must be fully covered by her clothes and wear a head scarf as a mark of respect! Should of seen their faces the other week when it was nice and she was sat in the back garden in a bikini!!
