Question Hiring a car??

Hi

I have made enquiries to a couple of car hire companies about hiring a car for a couple of days and the conditions are Over 21 and licence held for 2 years. As i've only held my licence just over a year now its a no go. Is this a general condition of car hire? If so, then i don't need to go phoning anyone else. If it isn't, then does anyone have any recommendations of companies to try?

Thanks

Please can I piggy-back onto this? Is it OK if the "primary driver" has the licence for a long time and the "secondary driver" has a recently-gained licence, or does the "min 2 years" apply to every named driver?

i think you'll find its more a case of their insurance cover as opposed to them being age-ist or any other kind of discrimination.

count yerself lucky, in places like france and switz, i have heard of people needing to be 26 and over!!

best thing is to buy a car for £50 and drive that!!

from hertz website:

The minimum age for rentals in the United Kingdom is 25 years of age for all vehicle groups except for Luxury Automatic (H), 4 Wheel-Drive Special (L), Special Special (S66) and Hertz Prestige Collection for which the minimum age is strictly 30 years old.

For Mini, Economy, Compact and Intermediate vehicle groups, for which the minimum age is 23 years old, there will be a supplementary charge of GBP 12.00 per day (excluding tax) with a maximum charge of GBP 120.00 (excluding tax) per rentals for drivers under 25 years of age.

I've hired loads of cars from Hertz, and I'm only 22. Saying that it was through work so that might be different

I've also hired cars from Enterprise, when I was 21. Give them a bell.
