Back Up and Running.
Why do these ruddy things happen on a Bank holiday weekend?

At 19:13 this evening my machine's PSU decides to blow up leaving me stranded with the prospect of no internet or TV (get TV via PC now) for the entire weekend.
Not to be out done, I have just swopped the entire contents of my machine from it's blown case to the case of my older machine - two strip downs and one rebuild in 1hr 45mins. And hey presto - we are back up and running again. Albeit with somewhat of a 'Frankenstein's monster' of a machine till I can get a replacement case next week. I'm amazed it all just worked first time. Most unusual in my experience.
Anyway, I reckon I deserve a beer or two.

Mind you, you've got me thinking new. If I can just swap the PSU in the blown case I will. That'll save a bit of cash. There are dozens of old carcasses laying around at work - and I'm not referring to the VPs either.

will give your links a try tommorow to see if it helps, at the mo no viruses, no spyware on the computer and pop up blocker in place and still getting the odd one or ten. gotta laugh, somethings seriously arseholed.
talking about fixing things:
earlier today i fired up the amp that drives the speakers in the kitchen as i wanted to get a bit of boogey going on whilst i washed up. however, nothing happened. investigation revealed that a fuse in the back of the unit had blown. i took it out and was going to sawp it for a 5a fuse out of a lead i don't require - but it's a different size. i then weighed up the options:
a) go out and try to find someone who sells these tiny fuses
b) do without music in the kitchen
c) reconfigure stuff so that another map drives the speakers
unfortunately d) was the preferred option:
wrap dud fuse in kitchen foil and re-fit.
does this option seriously compromise my safety? the sockets are mcb & rcd protected in any case so i reckon it shouldn't matter that much...

*why* do these things only happen on Bank and other Public holidays? Is it some wierd Karma thang going on?
I would say that the fuse blew for a reason though. The foil repair whilst expedient may cause something much more expensive to fail in the longer term.
BTW I find radio headphones the preferred method for getting music around the house and garden. Couldn't be without those either.
