Ray, take the phone back to where you got it from and ask them to do a 28 day exchange, make up a fault with it such as "freezes up" then when you've got the exchange model take it back under the 14 day money back guarantee.

The problem is that if there is ANY 3 signal then the phone will use that no matter how poor; it will only use the O2 network when there is no 3 signal whatsoever. This leads to lots of users having an appaling signal/service most of the time.

My buddy took his back, 3g is certainly not cracked up to all the hype unless you live right near a transmitter then i think you will get brain damage from the super strong signal frying your brain, I heard it makes you spellll baaddlee twoo

Hi
I used to work for 3.
I was involved with network design for 2 1/2 years. Another company poached me so they were not best pleased.
Back to the question - what exactly is the problem you are having BTW you dont really say?
Any way I can tell you the closer you live to the site (base station) the better. The phone will use the 02 network when there is no 3 coverage - but if you are in an area of poor coverage then it will still try and use 3. If you live in a tall building then you will have problems with interference. In 3g all the sites use the same frequency - so in order to rule out interference the phone is designed to handle 3 or 4 sites at once, if you can see more than this (because you are high up) then there is going to be lots of interference and poor quality as a result. GSM does not have this problem. From memory Birmingham is an ok area - obviously it depends on local area. 3G is the way forward but you have to remember you are dealing with very new technology. Sure the military have used 3G for donkeys but not on this scale so you will have to be patient really. I remember the problems with 2G when it was first launched - 3G is no different really. Give it 5 years and it will be a great system.
Sounds to me like you live about 1500m from a site(s) or are quite high up.
Cheers

Jaycee - Will PM you later. Im at work now.
I cant get reception when Im at home so its totally useless for me. Not if the time I cant get any reception.
Cant always get a network signal but its got better the last two days.
It take a bout 30 second plus to dial and get a connection.
A poor line when i get through.
