No contacts but buying directly from a turf farm will be better than a garden centre order (tell them you are a Landscape Gardener and you may get trade price). Seeding not an option then? DL

As it happens, a lot of football clubs replace their pitches around this time (End of Season, for all your football-haters ).

Cheltenham's was taken up about a week ago and every year they roll it up and just leave it in the carpark for anyone who wants it! Also, CTFC often win Season's-Best-Kept-Pitch awards for the quality of their pitch... Maybe worth giving them a call or trying to find a similar deal at your local grounds...

I'm no turf-expert, but 700sq/m sounds like a LOT of money to me...

Cheers!

I had a bigger area than that to turf and after a few quotes I spoke to a guy who had already done a similar area but with seeds.

As the work is in the preparation of the ground anyway and not the ready made turf, I thought I'd give it a go, after all the seeds cost next to nothing in comparison so I stood to lose very little.

Well, what a shock, it worked a treat and in a very short time from memory.

I wouldn't bother turfing again to be honest.

Seeding I don't think is an option as the ground is stony (& getting the stones out isn't an option !), otherwise I'd have to get masses of top soil in, to then seed, where as the turves will have an element of backing to them, plus I need my lawn NOW !!!!

Cheapest reputable price I've got so far is £1.80 sq mtr delivered from a grower.
Any more ideas, other than the local park at night ?

I would have though you could do better than £1.80, good turf found here is £2 per metre, however, I recently did a garden in Southampton where the guy paid £4 per metre, BUT it was bl88dy excellent grass, you could hold the turf at one end, and have the other off the ground to shake the muck off of it, trully brilliant stuff, but £4 x 700 is **** loads eh!!
