Default Sky and Moving House

Whats the deal with Sky if you move house during your 12 month minimum period? Weve been renting and had sky installed about 7 months ago. We are shortly moving into a new house (our own) and want sky there.

T's & C's say min 12 month and if you cancel early they will charge you full install cost or remainder of your period at min monthly charge. However are they generally more lenient when your simply moving your contract/account between properties?

FWIW new property already has sky dish installed and currently in use so no extra installation for them etc.

What are peoples experiences in this situation?

Thanks,
Simon.

Quote from the sky.com website.....re:moving home in customer services menu.

"Don't forget to take your digibox, remote and scart cables with you when you move. We'll arrange for an installer to reconnect you for £40. A new minidish and cabling will be installed in your new home and your existing digibox connected. You are responsible for obtaining all consents required (e.g landlord's consents) before installation. An additional installation charge will be payable by you to your installer if your installation is not standard. You will be advised by your installer about these charges before your satellite system is installed."

When we moved they charged us £40, then two weeks later had a horrific thunderstorm and it blew the topbox up so had to have another one at £60

im 99% sure you just take your viewing card and receiver... take it to the new house and let sky know about the change of address. they do some magic at their end and bingo, you get sky.

afaik its only a new contract if you need a new installation (as has just happened with me because the place i moved to didnt have the dish).

this really gets my goat,as an existing user it costs me £40 to take my many years old digibox to my new house.

If I was a new user I'd pay £1 for brand new install

Regards,

Greg

We moved from flat to house very recently.

Fortunately, the house already had a dish so we just took our box with us and connected to the existing dish. Phoned up sky and was connected instantly at no cost

If you've had Sky for more than a year and you move just cancel saying that its a change in financial circumstances and you can't afford it. Then reinstall for £1. New dish, new box, new warranty, etc.

P1Fanatic - you'll have to do a relocation and stump up the £40.

Is there any minimum time you must "not be a customer" to get away with this? There must be loads of people trying this angle, i'm sure someone told me recently that they wouldn't let you do this...

Asking as i'll be looking to do the same in about 6 weeks

Holy Thread Resurrection Batman!

We are moving soon and wondered if the info here was still valid?

If I move into a house that has a dish, can't see why I can't just plug in and phone sky to tell them I'm sorted.

It's £60 to get connected whether it be a simple connection right up to a dish with 1000m of cable!! But, make sure if you've got Broadband too, get them to cancel it first then re raise the job when you move oltherwise you'll have to wait bloody ages like we did

I might sack them off then and get one of these :-

Refurbished Digi-box HD Recorder - Tesco.Direct

The only reason I have sky is for the kids channels (and the 900+channels when the missus is in bed )

Does Freeview still just have the BBC and ITV childrens channels?

Steve
