Is life set out for us?
just a question like it is subconsciously(sp?) set out to us as well as being set out by society.
it seems life goes like so:
get education
get job
get girlfriend
get married
have kids
grow old
have grandkids
die
and it seems if we diverse from this get girlfriend then married jobbie we are odd. infact a bit like social leppers. i am nowhere near the getting married bit i am at the stage where all around me my friends and collegues are finding there partner and they expect me to do the same and to be honest i dont want too. but i feel the need to as going out is getting less interesting when everyone bar a few are getting it on. spare ***** at a cocktail party come to mind

Is life set out for us? Well, kinda
Here's my take on it. The list you give are events that could/will happen at some point in your life. Now, the path taken to these events is not a straight line. I see it as more of a tree, branching off for every decision made. I see those events listed as waypoints, now, you may reach them, but not actually stop off there, but you could return to that waypoint at a later time.
Very hippy like I know, but hey, that's my view on things. Guess it goes with my "the planet will protect itself" idea, which means, sod all this recycling stuff, when the planet has had enough of us then it'll take it's revenge (anyone seen/read "Edge of Darkness" by Troy Kennedy Martin?)

What can go in this 'list' of things to have done? The ordering will always be similar. Hard to have grandkids before you find a girlfriend and hard to get a job without any education (you gotta be able to speak and read somewhat!)
The only way to not live as that list shows is to not have kids and not work. A sterile chav if you like

How to write a Markus post:
start with a question (e.g. if the subject title is "How good are Arsenal", start out with "How good are Arsenal?")
Use the phrase "Moi?" a lot, and put several questions in the post
Post your opinion, then apologise for having it
Slag off chaos
BTW, I have seen (not read) "Edge of Darkness". Actually, FWIW James Lovelock's "Gaia theory" was around long before Bob Peck and Joe Don Baker made it fashionable. Personally, I liked Pendleton and Harcourt ("They say he's the state executioner -- wonder who he could be here for?", "Could be you, old boy")

to quote a film myself,
"i'm having a relationship with the music, and i can go all night"
thats how im living at the mo, possibley cus i've never found anyone worth while to make me change my ways. well thats a bit of a lie i have but she thinks im her mate i dont think theres much point in rushing it and thats what i think most people i know are doing.
