me and the missus are looking to go away on our first holiday together , i want some where really hot, sunny, beaches etc... but not cost a bomb or be over commercalised i thought about grand canaria just wondering if anyone has been there and if so what do they think , other suggestions will be greatfully recieved!

The Canaries always seem to be nice and hot all year round. We've done a few of the Islands over X Mas and its usually been anywhere from low to mid 20's onwards. The downside is there not the best looking places for scenery as there volcanic islands, but there is some nice beeches on all the islands.

If your going this time of year, then either Cyprus or the Balerics would be ideal or even Greece as wellas the Canaries.

There are some bargain holidays out there. We've just come back from Majorca and it was only £109 each for BB and all airport taxes, transfers, etc,

what about Mexico? fly into Cancun for £150 upwards and travel inland to see some beautiful places like Merida and maybe visit some great ancient sites like Chichen Itza (cancun is the benidorm of mexico, very comercialised). Prices are roughly half than in the UK. Dont know cost of car hire (was backpacking) but the coach network is very good. language is a bit difficult unless you speak spanish. try the website cheapflights

edit. you can go to other great beaches other than cancun, like Tulum or the Islas Mujeres

Menorca, one of Baleric islands, is a good choice and its not as commercial as Ibiza or Majorca.. I've not been there for many a year but a mate and his missus went last year and said its still very quiet. Perfect for couples or families.

Apparition

Puerto Pollensa in Majorca is nice and quiet without being a ghost town. Lovely beach too.......then there's the west coast too, Deya etc. If its good enough for R Branson and Mr & Mrs Douglas then its good enough for you.

What about Iraq,
Quiet,Very hot,not mant tourists,loads to see and the cheapest place to buy anything at the moment,need to book up quick as i think there will be a rush soon.
