Default Help with leaking Fish Pond

hi all

I have a 450/500 Gallon fish pond, that is leaking about 350 gallons overnight

It is primarily Brick, with plastic liner, and so I assume the liner on the bottom has been compromised

Im down to about 3 inches of water with 3 fish (Shubunkins I believe)

What is the best way to go about repairing it, replace the liner (huge job IMHO) or patch the liner (ive seen repair kits)

Also any ideas on what I can do with the Fish whilst I repair/replace the liner

Would I be better buying one of those plastic pre fab ponds, filling it with the remaining water from the pond, and sticking them in there or getting 3 large buckets ?

ANy help appreciated

Ta

I think i'd try repairing before replacing.

How about getting a plastic water storage tank to keep the fish in while you fix the leak?

John.

ive tried repairing liners in the past m8,not much success.you can pick up liners well cheap online, and have them within a couple of days.heres a couple of places i use, that have always been ok.

as for where to keep the fish, just get a decent size container with a nice size suface area,it dont have to be that deep, when constructing my pond i kept about 15 carp in a paddling pool about 18 inches deep all thru the winter and didnt lose one fish, hope this helps.

Are you saying that they planned this all along?

Store them in one of those plastic storage container/boxes (or a dustbin) and keep some of that black shade stuff they sell in garden centres over the top to keep them cool and keep the cats away. Change some water every couple of days and use that de-chlorinate stuff. I think you should be able to get some reasonable repair stuff although a new liner would be better. Good luck. BTW - a slight hijack but I have discovered the ultimate way of removing blanket weed if anyone is interested. Mail me PM for further info. DL

I'll ask you in 6 months. There's a slight possibility I might have some fish & plants by then

I have finally decided on which fish to have - trout, get em' as tiddlers from the fish farm, fatten em' up and then eat them . I imagine fishing could be a good talking point at the BBQ ( lads only )

mr leaky pond... why not disregard the liner if its brick built - pond sealer and or fibreglass. maybe the leak has come from a heron in the first place - it might happen again with a liner.

Ok Update

Thanks for the comments, I 'think' its the external pressurised filter, as all the soil around it was wet, anyway I been and bought some underwater repair sealant, a new external filter box, and all new hoses, just filling it back up now, and running it through the new Filter (with water taken from the old filter & pond)

Also put the magnet back, and got a new UV light too

Let you know how it goes

Steve

Oh, and there are loads of Herons around here, I inherited the pond when I bought the house, it was fully stocked with 10 fish, I have 3 left cos in my stupidity I left the cover off for 12 months

Cat had one, Herons had the rest

My Blue Channel Catfish is still safe tho
