Default Help with burning things

Hello

I am in the process of trying to clean my garden from lots of trees, bushes etc... and it is too difficult to drag it all to the local dump. I can't have a normal fire, as it would set light to everything else in the vicinity.

What I am looking for is something that allows me to burn things in a controlled fashion albeit just a a little bit at at time. Any suggestions?

I have thought about doing something terrible in the local community so that there would be a picket outside of my house and then they would bring their own barrel and burn everything...

Steve.

Hello

Thank you for that. The only place that seems to sell them is bizarrely Argos, and they are out of stock.

I think B&Q do them too, at least the bigger branches.

If it's all dry, just buy a metal dustbin & punch some holes around the base, to allow it to breathe. Once the fire is going you don't really need the incinerator lid, it just slows your burn down. I never use mine.

as mentioned just get an old style metal bin and punch a few holes in it. Then stick all your branches, leaves, etc in that. I'd advise doing it in the evening as less people will be out in their gardens at this time and less people will still have their washing out. You don't want to p*ss your neighbours off with the smell and smoke.

I did this recently. Predictably at least one neighbour complained to the police. The police arrived, checked the fire was controlled and I wasn't being a nuisance to anybody and then left.

Question

I have a 55 gallon oil drum that I use for this, it cost me nowt, a local scrap merchant gave it me!

I took the top off with a cold chisel, drilled holes all round and the base, with a 10mm drill and enlarged them with a steel spike I had for chopping out post foundations................a nice job!!

In you wanted to be environmentally-friendly you could borrow/hire a mulching machine, rather than burning it.

You'll end with a pile of chippings, that you could use on borders.

Have to agreee with Alcazar, used the same thing for many years, mucho fun when you get 2 ft flames coming out of the holes in the bottom And dropping in the odd aerosol can is silly, but a lot of fun (mis-spent youth you see )

50 gallons of petrol

Alternatively I've got a bloke arriving on Tuesday to take all our garden stuff, put up a picket fence, put up a dividing fence between us and next door and mend the existing rear fence - all for £200

45 gallon drum is the best with holes in the bottom as described up there. the best time to burn stuff is at night as you can burn anything in the dark, wood, bushes, plastic, tyres cos all smoke looks the same at night when ya cant see it

LOL!

Watch out burning plastics.... you will release Hydrogen Cynanide into the air, along with dioxins that cause male infertility!

I found out the hard way once that the law states that you cannot have an open fire within fifty feet of a main road.

The incinerator is the answer, if you can find one-or a 50 gallon drum!

No need for the vasectomy, just go and burn lots of plastic in your garden..
