Just saw it again. I'm now convinced it's some photoshop wielding tree hugger who has faked up the pics, and then presented them to the Mirror. I bet he's having a good laugh tonight, and I hope he's tracked down my MI5 and busted.

I would hope the Mirror have checked this all out thoroughly before printing. Given it is only a day or two after the U$ story, I'm not convinced....
Given this could have SERIOUS consquences in terms of retribution in Iraq & elsewhere, as well as influencing world opinion, if it IS a photoshopped fake, then the paper is pi$$ing around with lives in an almost direct manner.
Hmm.....dangerous.

Some people pay for this type of thing!!
Never understood why it's seen as a 'nice' thing.
Still we have a Prime Minister who has been pissing on the people for the last few years, so why should we be shocked at what the troops get up to?

Take a look for yourself and make up your own mind. Or do you take everything you read/see in the tabloids as gospel? Did you know that Elvis is still alive and well, and that Hitler escaped to the moon in a rocket?

Look...these things go on alot more than we could imagine...very occasionally they get caught on camera.
Our own police force have been known to dabble in brutality so it comes as no suprise that our (and US) soldiers are tormenting prisoners as they or their collegues may have been shot at by them.
I dont condone this but am merely highlighting that it happens. Personally I think its sick.

What I'm saying in this thread is that the picture in question of the soldier urinating on a captured Iraqi looks like a fake. It might not be, but to me it looks like it is.

i dont condone wot these pictures are showing, but you have to remember how our boys were treated when caught during the gulf war,and that these iraqi's caught this time round were actually trying to kill our boys before they were caught,it must be hard for them to not give them the odd slap etc....

Not one of the Americans accused in the abuse story have claimed the pictures are fake, but you think they might be?????
If you read the full story about the US soldiers in the prison the treatment there was systematic and had been going on with the full knowledge of those in senior positions. One of the accused also says at least one Iraqi died under interrogation and his death was covered up.
Amnesty had been making these accusations a long time ago but the Brit and US did squat about it. The only thing Bush, Blair and the military hierarchy are sorry about is that this stuff has come out in full technicolour.
According to the soldier that spoke to the Mirror this Iraqi was not just slapped about a bit - he was pulled out of a group of prisoners at random, taken aside and then they took turns to smash him up. They had smashed his jaw up and he was close to death. Their senior then told them that he hadn't seen anything and to 'get rid'. He was then thrown tied up half dead with his head covered off the back of a truck. According to one soldier the youngest soldiers are the worst - they really get off on the power trip.
If this story is true then there seems to be a familiar pattern with other incidents of taking one prisoner aside and getting their kicks.
Will anyone go down for this? I doubt it. When they can't even get justice at Deepcut what's the likelihood an Iraqi is going to get any?

Hmm.....so it seems like Unclebuck may be correct - the facts seem incorrect....wrong rifle, wrong headgear, wrong truck.
As I said before, this is ****ing irresponsible of the Mirror if they didn't verify their sources - they are ****ing with lives here.

I agree they should know better, but they can't let the truth stand in the way of a good story, eh? Think of all the extra copy they must have sold on the back of this.
Not to mention the cheap thrills the misguided tree huggers have enjoyed.

So, should it be eye for an eye or "we are better than you and wont stoop"? I reckon its easy from here to suggest what is the correct course of action but if you are put into the soldiers position would your judgement become blurred? Given what some of these to$$ers are capable of and what they have done to their own coutrymen I can begin to feel how some of these soldiers may feel towards them. I am not saying its right by any means, but in war grey areas are inebitable, plus its easy to pontificate from afar. Papers should not have taken it up though IMO

Agreed though, I was 'right' for a different reason. The images just 'looked wrong' to me. Good to be vindicated though.
