Why? I just dont get it, its actions like these that will trigger another September 11th, if this was the other way round there would be uproar, did they think no one would ever find out? Why cant Soldiers just do the job they have been told to do!

I can't believe one of the soldiers said it was the militarys fault for not training them properly on how to treat prisoners!
FFS thes idiots are so ******* thick its ridiculous. This is going to bring the campaign a massive headache with this coming to light. There is no excuse for it. The soldiers caught doing it should be court marshalled and have the harshest punishments brought down on them. This is pretty much the worst crime they could commit. With this they have lost all right to demonise those who do it to their soldiers as they are now as bad. I think this is the worst thing they could have done in terms of keeping support for what they are doing in Iraq. Whether the prisoner is a rapist/murderer whatever they have no grounds to be doing this to him. To even take photos and be proud of what they are doing is just beyond me.

Why? coz half of them think they're on some frat-party (SIC).
Abusing prisoners has always gone on, it's just that in modern times you actually get to here about it thankfully.
Interrogating prisoners for information is one thing, but to humiliate them for the sake of taking some photos to brag to your m8's sickens me.
Having said that, if I'd spent 6 months out in Iraq getting shot at every day then I might react differently. Don't want to believe that I could be capable of that sort of thing under any circumstances

When he's part of an illegal/not internationally authorised invading force who the country's nationals object to, and he decides to imprison and then torture and humiliate them for having the temerity to shoot at him, he plumbs the bottom of the feckin barrel in my book.

Stupid and idiotic behaviour.
It is easy to tar all with the same brush, i suspect these are a minority and will be delt with.
What it will cause is lots of problems for the troops on the front line. Their enemies now have been landed a golden PR and recruitung opportunity.
So much for having the moral high ground, this is just so stupi. I hope they court marshal all involved or better still hand them over the the Iraqi Police to dish out the punishment.
Thier actions are in the spirit of Saddam Hussien - fecking fools!
I hope no decent soliders die because of this!

It's no more uncivilised than hanging 2 dead American civilain contractors from a bridge.
These things happen in war, you can't train people to be killers one minute and ask them to be diplomats the next.

ProperCharlie, don't get me wrong I'm not saying there shouldn't be a level of professionalism or control, but soldiers should be fighting not guarding. Acting Gun-ho is perhaps more common in the US forces but I'm sure that the Paras and the Marines aren't all angels either - they are trained to kill not act as jailers.
The plain fact is that they would not be prisoners if there was not some evidence that they had been involved with troublemaking or possibly attacks on the coalition forces. In my opinion you forgo your human rights if you start taking potshots at your protectors and liberators.
It's not a racial thing because I believe the same for anyone British who attacks a member of the police force for example.

I think the lack of 'conventional' thought and fanatacism makes the Geneva convention somewhat irrelevant don't you?
Why should a treaty protect those with no repsect for the foundations of the culture and law upon which it is based?

B2Z; correct, trouble is the Yanks spend half the time killing allies so the resultant indadequecies of their troops makes it easy for them to reach the lowest level of warfare..........Vietnam & Rwanda part deux.

Bravo, I say this without any sarcasm, I admire your principles.
In the fog of war I wonder how viable these things are? I've no experience of what it is like to be a serviceman in conflict.
As for propganda, I think the 2 main countries 'running' the war have done quite enough to stuff themselves.
