Anyone driven the Stelvio Pass??
I'm thinking about doing this later in the year.
Has anyone travelled there before and done this? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks
Terry

The is a very funny video on there of some loon and his misses overtaking everyone on his way up the Stelvio. Although the guy is driving, the sound track shows who is in charge in that car. Very funny.
Definately adding it to my list of places to visit in the future.

Haven't done it myself but was planning to this year. Couple of people have told me it's full of pedestrians and bikers. Have done the St Gotthard pass and the San Bernadino pass and they are awesome.

Strewth, that woman in the video would drive me barmy especially being cooped up in an Elise! I've not driven the Stelvio but can offer a good but much longer alternative, that being the Route De Napoleon that tracks out from the bottom of Grenoble and comes out in Grasse about 120 miles away.
A brilliant route and a nice alternative to the peage down to Nice.

Her name is Jane and what might seem like sombody cracking on to you is just what you need if you are taking a BIG pass fast. While all I can look at is the next hairpin or braking/turn in point she is telling me what is on the next ramp that I cant take time to look at, so that when I hit the apex I know what to expect.
She used to just sit there and say very little and let me get on with it but now we work like you heard and can make much better progress. There is no way I would want to travel with any other female I know in the passenger seat - they tend to be screaming to be posted home to mummy or throwing up in my experience - neither of which helps me go any faster
Oh yes - Route Nap is good fun in parts - had a 30 mile scrap with a WRX down there back in 2000 but the back roads nearby are much better value - Puget Theniers, Sigale, Roqueseron, Gillete road is my favourite!

Good to see you on here.
It was me that phoned you last month with a few Qs...
I've decided to put my planned Scooby Tour to the Stelvio to 2005 - September as you suggested. I had a link up to it in ""International Meets"
Will give me plenty of time to plan properly - will probably extend to 5 days or so - spending time in the Alps and coming back through Germany (Autobahns and Nurburgring).... should be awesome.
Cheers

We have a big (3 week) Stelvio planned for 2005 + a 2 week and 1 week option.
3 weeker goes down to the toe of Italy and Sicily via the best of the Alps then over to Greece and round the Pelopenese before heading NE through Athens to Isatnbul for a one night stop then back home via the Balkans/Poland (Tatra Mtns) Stelvio and home.
Have a good contact who can help with hotels route planning track days etc. if you are interested. He has access to all our past Stelvio routes.
