Angry Nokia 6230 help - please

Just splashed out and bought a Nokia 6230 but am having some "fun" with it...

Put it on charge and when it switches on all I get is a full white screen. Registered the sim card with orange and they've sent me an SMS but I can't "read" it.

Rang up Club Nokia to see if it was faulty and apart from saying that it has to go on initial charge of 16 hours (fair enough) got the classic quote "some of the 6230s are sent out with the screen set on full brightness" "have a look in your manual to see how to turn it down"

Then waws told to wait until it had fully charged and give them a ring again - "OK, sometime tomorrow, then?"

"We don't work weekends"

"Monday then"

"OK" - end of conversation

The question:-

Does anybody know the actual key sequence to get through the menus to turn down the brightness (It's menu #4, option #3 according to a basic list in the manual )

If it helps, it's a sim-free with a new orange payg sim installed...

TIA

Andy

Bare with me here because I don't have this particular phone to hand but if you press your top left menu button (blue line) and then the down arrow on the 4-way button (once), then the top left menu button again. Next the down arrow twice again and top left menu button. Here is the gamble because it could be totally different, but I think you need to press the down arrow 4 more times and the select key. Then just adjust the brightness either using the vol. keys if the phone has them or most likely the left and right arrow of the 4-way button.

Could be totally wrong there, sorry if i am.

Good luck

It doesn't seem to work

I get a starting chime when turning the phone on so am assuming it's back to "home page" but the instructions don't seem to follow through yet

I've tried to select "restore factory settings" but don't know whether I'm selecting the correct menu item

Thanks so far... but if anybody else is able to help, I'd be grateful

Does pressing menu followed by the 4 button and then the 3 button not navigate through the menu? It does on most nokia phones. Will probably then need to press menu again to select that option to let you alter the brightness.

HTH.

to restore to factory settings,

select menu, press4, then select down 11 times and push down on the main centre button. Then enter the security code. (normally 12345 i think when you get a brand new phone but it is in the manual) you may need to push down on the centre button again.

Not sure how to change the brightness. it doesnt have that option under the Display option screen.

I understand what you mean John but I've tried resetting the phone back to factory defaults without success and I can't find anything on brightness settings in the manual even though plenty of sites selling the phone have it in the spec that it's possible...

The first batch of 6230's had software issues. I would suggest taking the phone back to the dealer and get a refund or exchange.
