Real Burger World
Did anyone watch this programme lastnight?
Why the **** were they opening a second outlet whilst the first one was way off from even breaking even?

They've had to take their website down! Shame the formula isn't working out.

Watched most of it. Neither me or my girlfriend thought the shop was different enough from your typical kebab / burger house or Maccy D's.
That original price list too!

The problem is, they were marketing a niche product directly against mass market providers right on their doorstep. Great location in terms of footfall etc, but with so many other fast(er) food outlets in the same row of shops they hadn't a hope of stealing enough business.
If you're into healthy eating, you don't eat a fast food burger.

I actually joined in with the live chat after the programme, where the public could ask questions to the two guys. They said that since the programme had been made the business had turned up and they were starting to break even and they were very confident about the future.
I'm sure they will be VERY busy this lunchtime!

Why didnt they contact the local press and get them interested in a story - free publicity. They could also have parked up a **** off great big transit with a sign saying, "Freshly made burgers 100 yards on the right" or something like that.
And who'd invest £100k+ without checking / signing the fecking lease on the premises!!

Yeah, that's the bit that got me - how could they kit out the premises and failed to have signed the lease? The incompetance was staggering.
Not only that, they said on several occassions that they had no budget for advertising. How do you promote your business without advertising? When you consider that one of the guy's fathers had been running a restaurant for 4o years, you would have thought he would have offered / taken some advice.
It may be all natural ingredients etc, but it is still a fast food burger. I can't see it lasting.

The lease thing was ridiculous

It was a nice idea in principle, but they are only ever going to get a 'niche' market. If your into healthy eating, then I'm afraid that you don't eat many burgers, whether they be fresh or not.
They would be better off doing mobile catering at special events.

That's a very good point. For the last couple of years at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, there has been a fantastic vegitarian mobile catering setup. They did amazing food, including excellent burgers. They were raking it in. I guess they go to events all over the place. The idea that these guys had, would seem to fit this better.

I think there would be more for a market for a Subway type chain rather than "healthy" burgers. In fact are there any Subay outlets in the UK? I've only ever seen 'em in the US.
