Advice on male grooming.

Advice on male grooming.
Hi all,
Just decided to "get my stuff sorted". Now some stuff is obvious, ie nice clean crisp shirt and a shave every day etc. Now to the hair, now I dont have much (began to lose it at 16) so I just have a "home made" no 1 all over.
Now gents do you think its worth going to a proper "stylist" to get a good look or just pay the £4 at the barbers ? I mean what can you do with next to no hair ?
Also can anyone recommend some good sites for skin care and such ? Any other tips etc. Where can I find some advice on buying good fitting (looking) clothes as I have no dress sense whatsoever. Don't laugh but Primark do some nice Cederwood state shirts, that are just excellent quality and cut but only cost £5 each.
Cheers

From a female point of view sounds like your on the right track.
I think its great that your putting some thought into sorting your stuff!
I think its worth getting your hair cut by proper stylist once in a while. Let what you have grow for a bit then go somewhere decent.
They have different cutting and styling methods that may give you a bit of a boost up top.
They will be able to recommend some good hair prodcts to make your style look its best without looking like you've put loads of crappy gel on it.
Then you could go somewhere less expensive to have a trim to keep the shape.
There are a few skincare ranges for men. If you want to just try out a few bits have a look in Tesco or where ever you shop. I know tesco have Nivea for Men and Simple for men. Even Tesco's own skin care range is a start.
If you want to spend more money then Clinique do a mens range thats is suposed to be good.
You might like to try some exfoliating face wash ..... get rid of all the crap and dead skin.
Then nice moisturising shaving gel and a good razor. Mr.Scooby swears by his Mach3.
Moisturiser for use after shaving and it will get your skin looking in great condition.
If you go to the Simple or Nivea web site they sometimes have a free trial size offer.
King of shaves is another make that have free samples.
Treat yourself to a nice aftershave. Go and get yourself a few samples from Debenhams or somewhere. Then you can try a few out and find one you like if you haven't got a fave already.
mmmmm the smell of a nice clean guy with yummy aftershave
As far as new threads go maybe you should select a few key items to start with.
Make sure they are a good fit. No point buying anything if the fit is all wrong.
I'm not an expert in where to buy clothes for men but I'm sure there are some bloke type shops where the staff would be happy to help you out. Just tell them you fancy a bit of a new look and want a bit of advice. Thats what the staff are there for.
While your in Debenhams getting your aftershave samples get your butt to the mens dept. They've got nice selection of mensware and some designer stuff if you want to go that way.
Maybe start off with buing things in colours that go well together so you can mix and match.
No point having nice clothes if your shoes are all tatty. Might as well get a new pair while your at it !!
If you decide to look for places that sells clothes on-line make sure they have a free returns policy. If things don't fit its gonna cost a fortune to send stuff back all the time. I really think you'd be better off at the high street trying stuff on and seeing what fits well and looks good.
Dunno if thats any help.
But its a start!
Good luck with it
Cath
p.s. have you ever bought Mens Health Magazine. It sometimes has features on things like skin care routine.

Further to scoobypreza, whatever you do, don't be tempted into a combover or any other method of trying to disguise thinning on top. Stay with the grade 1.

(Seriously, if you're lacking in the hair department I reckon shaved looks better than anything else you could do)

Avoid places like Primark for a start
If you want affordable good looking clothes, and aren't arsed about designer labels try the new Sp. and Blue Harbour Vintage ranges at M&S.
I've bought a few shirts and jeans from this range recently and they are spot on - great fit, great price and look good.
Try Clarks for soes - they have a new range of quality looking shoes for £45.

I've got a lustrous full head of hair so I reckon a proper stylist is a must. That said I had a great £3 haircut last time I was back up north, great to have my hair clippered in no nonsense fashion for a change.
As for skin care and other toiletries go I've always found Cliniques range of products to be very effective. They offer a great shaving range and the 'scruffing' lotion is very effective at giving ones skin a really fresh feeling.
Scent wise I quite like some of the Kenzo products. I use Gaultier 'Le male' in place of the usual chav-tastic deodorants.
As far as looking good in general goes I reckon an hours vigorous exercise a day gives you an internal healthy glow that no amount of grooming could ever replace- get your running shoes on!

Moses is spot on , but I would add- I've started shaving around my anus as well now , as the women I am meeting are into ****/oral /digital sex - so it is essential that this area is kept spotless to avoid any embarrassing moments. I would give the **** wipes a miss though - better to get the old water jet up there - standard equipment in all toilets in Baku.

Clarians for men range of skin care is very good. Try the King of Shave moisturisers (much better than expensive counterparts). Oh and the new LaCoste for men scent is a complete knockout for women (trust me )
Dress sharp - simple rule - make sure what you buy fits well. No point spending shed loads on nice looking stuff which has a crap fit as it'll just look crap.
Always wear good shoes/footwear. Trust me, women notice this. Wear decent socks too. Actually, next time you go shopping, make sure you have a woman there to help you chose - they can usually tell what looks good.
If you can, get to the gym or a home workout. Not sure how old you are but having a trim stomach takes you 90% of the way to looking sharp!
PS - I'm not a woman!

As an addendum to my previous post , I would suggest clean /stylish underwear. There is nothing more off putting for your lover to see a man standing only in his socks and string underpants.
Dont fart in bed -in fact dont fart at all until married
Go to dentist often
brush and floss teeth/tongue
remove ear wax
Trim eye brows
wash hair frequently
Cut finger/toe nails
If you are hairy get your back waxed
Dont leave skid marks on underpants/toilet bowl
Dont **** on toilet seat -better to leave up and let her moan.
Dont tuck shirt in under pants
Dont tuck tie into trousers
Never wear a safari suit under any circumstances
Only wear dark socks
Dont wear ties that have food down them
Dont pick nose ,scratch bollocks/****,spit
Ensure whole genital area is clean and no loose pubic hairs around
After sex ,Remove condom discretely
Avoid foods that create intestinal gas -Real ales ,Guinness, curry , beans etc
Ensure no spots/pimples on your ****/dick
Remove any stubble from ***** - you just might get lucky
I personally rub vitamin E cream on my togger before I go on a date .But go easy.
