Default maths type question

this is probably pretty obvious but i am having a brain ache. can someone tell me what to do please - what i want is to have last year's salary in one column, this year proposed salary in the next column, and a third column that will autmotically caculate the % increase in salary. this is in excel btw.

so what formula do i need in the third column?

tia

probably a more elegant way to do it but how about:
=((B1-A1)/A1)*100

wow, that's twice!
Re-reading, I didn't mean yours was inelegant, my sentence should have began:
"There is..."

I wasn't aware of your response at the time of typing, I was too busy recalling BODMAS as Mr Cowie explained to us many years ago..!!

Thumbs up

cheers - through trial and error i eventually came up with ((A1/B1)-1)*100 which seemed to work, but i think i'll change it to hank's suggestion.

not convinced speedking, we were told it was the chinese for trigonometry, and 20 odd years later, having never used it, it seems to have stuck!
