i recently got 5 buyers together (myself rather then on here) and got RA for £310. from radar detector shop. they also do LRC100 and adaptors to fit them together ... and might do a deal for you.

check out radarshop (nl) for deals on LRC100. they did them for £200 on the last group buy ... although their website isn't showing it.

- mark.

Just a little correction. The RA isn't a RADAR detector. It's a GPS based, database driven locator.

Has a database of all Fixed cameras, accident blackspots (read mobile cameras) and inductive loop (under the tarmac) detectors, and warns you that you are approcahing one of the said (and a few others) [Cynical mode] 'Money Gatherers' [/cynical mode].

Sorry to be a tit

I've already got a BELL VECTOR Sti (ORDINARY) style Radar dectector.. but its 5yrs old this year.
want up upgrade to a GPS style dectector.. and use the BELL along side it.

do the GPS system work for mobile speed van.... so if you pass one and your system didn't go off.. you press a button and then it makes the GPS Satalite aware that the vans there for every other GPS user to get warned and also ME on the return journey?
do you follow me?

No, doesn't work like that mate. The GPS systems can warn you of blackspot areas that MAY have a speed trap. I think this is rubbish though because all mobile sites I've seen in the past few years have been in money generating spots. So you prob want a laser jammer for that & also keep your Bell Detector.

The GPS system only updates when you connect by modem/Internet at the end of the day. It doesn't update itself as you drive along.

Read this site http://www.ukspeedtraps.co.uk/frames.htm & figure out which system got you, then you need to decide what to protect against.

Thumbs up

The best Radar detector on the market is Origin B2. Simple as that.

The best Radar & Nav system is Road Pilot.

They are far better than snooper & road angel.

Origin B2 is £375

I noticed the wink, but for others reading the thread, a GPS system will not warn you of parked police cars or revenue gathering "safety" vans.

I use a Bell Euro 550 which came out top in all previous tests plus an Orgin blue i for the fixed sites, this also picks up the new SPECS units.

Salsa.. You press the store button twice on the RA as you pass a site you wish the box to remember.

It will then bleep as a 'mobile' site the next time you're within range.. I have this for some sites that weren't covered by the database download.... My take is that it is best to be warned of a POSSIBLE mobile site, slow down and find it is empty and smile, than to press on taking the chance...

IMHO, the laser detector on ANY device will not protect you. The reaction times for getting a laser reading on a Police gun is miliseconds... way too quick for you to react. The laser bleep you hear, will be the start of clock ticking for the ticket to drop on to your mat...

The beam spread from a LASER gun is a few centimetres at a hundred or so yards. A bit vague, but it does depend upon the weather, angle of the 'hit spot' on the vehicle (usually the number plate), the operator and the gun in question. All have various tolerances that make this not an exact science. The only precise bit is the reading, as this will be calibrated. So, you MAY be VERY LUCKY to get some scatter from the laser detector in the windscreen (3 ft+ from the hit spot) if another vehicle is targetted, but it is highly unlikely to get scatter from your own vehicle in time for you to realise what the bleep means, hit your brakes and slow the few miles an hour to safety...

But it's better than nothing... but not as good as a LRC100

Road Angel has been top in Auto Express and Evo Magazine reviews that was a while ago. Not sure what the score is now. When I can afford one I will probably get a Road Angel. I have the Valentine One at the moment.

If you need something that directs you then yes. Otherwise Origin b2 is a neater unit IMO.

B2 is incredible.

on top of that it combines with lrc 100 like road angel but also they are bringing out a detector which addds on too and uses clever cross referencing to avoid false alarms.

it is also the only gps unit which can be restricted to only go off when you are exceding the known speed limit.

Thumbs down Origin B2 is not a radar detector - Yet

The Origin B2 is a GPS unit, supplied as standard with a laser detector. The optional radar detector add-on was supposed to be available in November 2003, delayed till March 2004 ...... still not available ...... Origin are now saying "radar detector is scheduled for release over the Summer" whatever that means.

Quick Reply: best Radar Detector on the market.. approx £400
