Apocalypse Now - Helicoper attack
Been going through my DVD collection and watching various films.
This has to be the best bar none action sequence ever.
Fekin superb.
The 1st of the 9th Air Cav mobilising with the trumpet fanfare, assuming attack formation with the Hueys taking lead from the Cobras, Wagners Rice of the Valkyries pumping from the Hueys to scare the hell out of charlie ('my boys love it'), the Cobra attack helicopter braking formation approaching the vill, the shot from inside the Huey approaching the village low over the water, the rocket launchers opening up ('outstanding shot red leader'), the midi/M60 guns chattering away at anything that moves ('Run Charlie'), the jets flying in close formation and screaming in from left to right napalming ('gonna be a big one') the tree-line........need i go on
Arguably Robert Duvalls 'i love the smell of napalm...smells like victory' best performance as the awe-inspiring Colonel.
Just sheer class. Coppola at his very best.
Blows me away every time i watch it.
Dont think it will ever be surpassed.

If you like that sort of thing, you should play Battlefield Vietnam - when you fly the helicopters you can play Ride with the Valkyries over the jukebox (along with a few other Motown stuff)

The first 45 minutes of Apocalypse is the most mesmerising war movie ever; I would agree with you on the helicopter attack, I've watched it over and over on the projector. Makes me realise why I hate CGI.
Also Robert Duvall's performance is just perfect, great actor, great script.
It does lose direction after that, though, but still pi55es on all the other Nam films.
