He now has nine points on his licence and will face an automatic ban if he speeds again in the next three years.
Does bring a wry smile to my face though.....

The clue is there somewhere.
Jan 2004 - 3 pts - current
Apr 2004 - 3 pts - current
So 6 VALID points. The article says he will be banned if he is caught again within 3 years which is untrue.
So where is that clue then?

It says he got 6 points for this *crime*, not 3.
so thats 9 this year!!!
How long before points drop off? I thought it was a good 4 years.
In fact my office mate who is waiting for some of his to go says it is indeed 4 years. so he should be on 12 now???

Ok, lets run with this... I didn't re-read it because your first response didn't identify where I had gone wrong, it was merely quoting verbatim part of the story that I HAD read correctly, hence I had no reason to read it it again.
Now Juan, on the other hand, was able to concisely point out what I missed straight away, hence my immediate acceptance of error and accompanying apology.
So its good that you don't feel smug, because I don't feel daft!

They only count for 3 years, but stay on licence for 4 (God knows why, it seems to serve no purpose)
