He now has nine points on his licence and will face an automatic ban if he speeds again in the next three years.
Surely he only has 6 valid points, because the July 2000 points would now have expired.

Does bring a wry smile to my face though.....

In July 2000, his licence was endorsed when he failed to comply with traffic lights and in January this year he was given a fixed penalty fine and three points for another speeding case.

The clue is there somewhere.

Jul 2000 - 3 pts - EXPIRED
Jan 2004 - 3 pts - current
Apr 2004 - 3 pts - current

So 6 VALID points. The article says he will be banned if he is caught again within 3 years which is untrue.

So where is that clue then?

It says he got 6 points for this *crime*, not 3.

so thats 9 this year!!!

How long before points drop off? I thought it was a good 4 years.
In fact my office mate who is waiting for some of his to go says it is indeed 4 years. so he should be on 12 now???

They only count for 3 years, but stay on licence for 4 (God knows why, it seems to serve no purpose)

Not in the slightest, I did kind of hope you'd have no need to challenge it again though just from a " I took the time to point out your mistake so you should take the time to re-read it properly" point of view.

Oh well, lunch is served.

LOL

Ok, lets run with this... I didn't re-read it because your first response didn't identify where I had gone wrong, it was merely quoting verbatim part of the story that I HAD read correctly, hence I had no reason to read it it again.

Now Juan, on the other hand, was able to concisely point out what I missed straight away, hence my immediate acceptance of error and accompanying apology.

So its good that you don't feel smug, because I don't feel daft!

It was explained to me when I did my CPC many moons ago, but I can't remember why it was now. Something to do with you sending off your license a couple of weeks before they were due to be cleared off and getting more points that would then put you over the limit, but because you had sent your docs off they would have to wait for you to get them back by which time they would be clean, or something - don't want to miss the opportunity to ban somebody and get extra revenue for the sake of a fews days now do we?
