Can I ask you all to check your lights
Was out on my bike today riding to see my friend. Almost at his house when I had to ride through a car park was riding past the cars which were waiting for a space, looking at everyones reversing lights to check that they werent about to pull out, when suddenly with no warning a offroader reversed out like he was in a race with not 1 of his reversing lights working and didn't hang around long enough for me to notify him.

It wasn't an ex-Army Land Rover was it? My old one didn't have reversing lights at all, didn't need them to pass an MOT either as they weren't fitted originally. If they'd been fitted then they'd have to work to pass the MOT.
Had a good one in the B&Q car park last year.
Me: Reversing slowly, no cars moving except a megane at the other end of the car park.
Bloke in Megane: Comes racing up to me, locks up, shouts "f***ing idiot, your reversing lights aren't working".
Me: "I don't have any reversing lights"
BIM: "Well how am i supposed to know you're reversing then?"
Me: "Because there's a massive hulking 2-ton peice of metal moving slowly backwards towards you"
BIM: $%£* *&^)%$$ $£"$%^ etc"

There is no legal obligation to have working reversing lamps. They aren't tested by the MOT.
In many cases the switch on the gearbox is faulty, or badly earthed. So the cost of repair with labour would probably put off many cheapskates to repair. So it's not always the cost of a bulb. Faulty switches are more common than you think.

Also check your bike lights as someone I know knocked a cyclist off - went under the wheels of his transit and was decapitated. Pitch black with no lights or flourescent clothing on!

Erm, I spent £35+Vat+Labour (mine!) to fix my reversing lights, only to find they aren't tested on the MOT, and aren't needed.
They stopped working a week later, too
F*ck it.

Never ride my bike in evening but I always wear opposing coloured clothes to weather. Do reflectors serve any purpose during day as my bike as none on it as it is a downhil bike...

Ah, here's one for ya, is it not illegal to sell a push bike with no reflectors? If so, you should have some or have you removed them cos they're not cool?

You need those reversing beeps from a truck...attached to an air horn That'd clear the road.
At least the Rangie is old, & lacking in huge door pillars as so many modern cars seem to have - makes quite a difference in seeing the way behind you. Seems strange that as cars get newer, the blind spot gets worse. That's my experience anyway. Volvo 440 - meant to be safe, but the door pillar blocks your view over the shoulder. Scooby GL wasn't so bad though.

Does that mean they can get away with it?

Just popped out to me garage to check.
My bike does actually have reflectors, one white reflector on each wheel. There are no other reflectors it has none on pedeals or seat post/steering post like my parents bikes.
I am assuming this is legal as I have never taken any off.
