Default Car flooded???? Won't start

My sister is having problems starting up her car- she's had this problem before and was told its "flooding". It happened because she started the engine and shut it off within a few minutes and the petrol injection has flooded the engine. Our problem is- how do we start the car up again??? HELP!

Cheers

Cool

Try putting the accelerator all the way to the floor and hold it there while turning the engine over. Usually works for me.

Cool

If you do this on a Scoob, you're supposed to crank it over, and continue cranking while slowly depressing the throttle to the floor.

Good advice and once this is sorted tell her not to touch accelerator when she is starting car. DL

This happened to mine once, a right nightmare, ended up getting the AA. They took plugs out and dried them out, turned engine over with plugs out, put them back in dry, and she *just* started using the full throttle trick as described. I'd also had to switch off cold having just moved it out of the way. I sit in it running for 10 mins or go for a quick spin if I need to now.
Hope you get it sorted.

My girlfriend has the same problem with her R-reg Nissan Micra - if you start the engine then turn it off in quick succession (e.g moving cars round on the drive) then next time you try to start it - flooded engine!!

Way I get it started is to take the fuse for the petrol pump out, turn the engine over a few times, then replace the fuse and start it!!

Once it was so flooded that with the petrol pump fuse out, the engine still started - and kept going long enough for me to replace the fuse!!

Why does holding thottle down while starting a flooded engine work? Doesn't that just pump more fule into the cylinder?
