or use this as an opportunity and start your own software house or become a consultant / contractor. IT job market is DEFINITELY picking up.

Jees-o, unless I have the memory of a goldfish (it's a possibility) .. you're an ex-Agilent bod. Don't tell me you're looking at redundancy again
Hmmmm, people (and agencies) always tell me that they are now starting to see lots of jobs come up ... from my experience they are all IT based not engineering which are few and far between.
Also Agilent didn't offer many transferrable (sp?) language skills for a lot of them, there's more VB, database stuff going on than C/real-time.
I'll keep an eye out for you.
