Question White label?

I've just been listening to Radio 1. Earlier they played a track called 'Now we are Free' by Gladiator. I found the tracklisting on their website and it says it's a white label. My question is, what's a white label? Does this mean it's not available to the general public? I'd really like to get hold of this track! I'm not usualy into dance music hence my lack of knowledge.

Cheers

White label usually means that the track has been pressed up (vinyl records made) by the people who made it, rather than a record company. There are normally only 500 or so produced and mailed out to DJs or sold in independant shops. They are called white labels because the label is literally white, printing costs extra and isn't neccessary.

I say usually, because some record companies put tracks out as "white labels" to try and create a buzz for a track. You can usually spot them a mile off by the inscriptions in the run out groove.

I suspect the Gladiator track will either get sample clearance and be licensed to a major, or remain forever limited as it is now.

According to Kazaa "Now We Are Free" is from the soundtrack of Gladiator (the movie)

Composed by Hans Zimmer

UB,

Yes I saw that when I searched for it too. But this is a dance track - whether some of it is sampled from the track on the Gladiator soundtrack I don't know.

It was played about 40 minutes into Judge Jools' show yesterday.

why not listen to the show again, then record the track. Ok, its not an original so to speak but its probably all you could get from kazza anyway.

bloody ell, I knew you'd ask that

do a search on download.com for a sound recorder, I have never really done it myself, I just sort of know it can be done. I *think* Nero Wav editor will do the job, I used it once to record some music from my Bro's minidisc player, then just convert to Mp3 ( might need another little programme though)

cheers.

I have the original test press of this- i got it about 3 months ago.
I have no more copies- ive sold the 4 i had and cant get any more, otherwise id gladly sell you one.

There is an official release on april 19th -Gladiator feat izzy.- now we are free (evolve records)- this is NOT the darren tate remix, despite what others are listing it as.
The promo i was sent by one of my promo companies is not the same version- its a really cheesed up version with loads of film samples in and is called the 'dreamgate mix'- avoid this as its terrible.
But im assured the version i have and jules has been playing is the one destined for official release.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...category=58644 is the only one i can find.

If its the correct version- it will simply say 'Gladiator 2004' on the white label and be a single sided press.

If its listed as white label- it means it hasnt been released by a record company- and its floating about on a piece of vinyl, with literally a plain white label in the centre. These are often one sided also.
White labels can be 'test pressings' pressed up by companies to send to djs to create a buzz on a track or simply to test reaction from the crowds. They might even be sent out by the artist to try and get it signed.
Most bootlegs/mash ups/illegal samples will be pressed on whites- its not an official release, due to illegal samples- but if someone presses up 200 copies on a white then sells them on it will be in circulation.

p.s if you want a promo as of tomorrow (22nd march), buy it online- link: http://www2.hmv.co.uk/hmvweb/display...;-1&sku=169842

Please dont download it- as its killing the vinyl industry

CDex is good for recording streaming audio, see download.com.
'Tools', 'Record from analogue input', choose your soundcard as input device, choose how you want your file encoded. Everything sounds less than good through BBC 'Listen Again' though, but it'll do the trick til you find the record to buy.
