I recieved a new V5 registration certficate today. Problem is, I've never owned the car in question.

Luckily I know the person who now owns said vehicle.
The question is though, what should I do with the certificate?

I know I could just put the new keepers details in it and send it back but it will still leave me as being an owner at some point.

Maybe a letter to the DVLA explaining things?

Any advice welcome, even better a letter I can send to them to sort this mess out

I would give DVLA a call and ask their advice. They may be able to sort it there and then on the phone!

It sounds a bit suspicous though.... so "someone you know" has bought this car and registered YOU as the keeper? They could be planning a ram raid, a speeding spree or anything!

I bought the car from a trader I know for a mate. At the time they didn't have the log book. When I brought it up with them they said they were going to send it off in my name. (cos they're w*nkers) I told them not to and gave them the guys name who now owned the car.

Today it arrives in the name of James 'Wing nut' Humphreys (Not even laughin at that one)
Not amused at all

And I guess they would have forged my signature and the previous owners.
