AFAIK, the Isle of Man is part of Britain, or the UK, whatever you want to call it, so any currency from any place which is part of it, IS legal tender.

Indeed, she's talking bull$hit. IOM money is legal tender over here but most shops don't know that, other than the ones around the ferry ports (Liverpool, Heysham etc.).

If they don't accept it you should be able to walk into any high street bank and change it for english money.
