Unhappy Who remembers what they were earning in 1999?

Got a note from Inland Revenue today stating that they have no records of earnings for the year 1999-2000 and have "assessed" my unpaid liability at £1,600

WTF, anyone know about this stuff? I 'kin hate govt departments. I'll probably have to spend the next 12 months in a world of letters, threats of legal action, accruing interest, etc, just to find out that there was some "mistake" in 1998

Mikey, do you not have a P60 for that year? This will tell you how much you earnt, paid in taxes and any benefits you might have received from your company (health, petrol, etc...).

I am not sure on the legal requirement, but I think you are supposed to keep these for a minimum number of years (possibly at least 6 at a guess as I know that's as far back as the tax office go for making amendments to self assessment forms). I've recently had to do a self assessment form for 2000/2001 as the Inland Revenue had no record of my earnings and the only way I could fill in certain sections of the form was via the P60.

Morning Scott (and Phil )

Like most people, I have my P60 "SOMEWHERE" I think it's crazy that a system can be this bloody old and beaurocratic (sp?) that they come out of the shadows 5 years down the line and stand there bold as brass stating I owe them money! To55ers

Mikey <I hate being system'd>

Mikey, if you are still at the same company ask your wages dept for a copy of your P60 this used to be frowned upon but the Revenue have now relaxed that a bit.

It will not show any expenses or healthcare benefits that have been processed for that year as that is on your P11D.

It will show your Gross pay, Tax and NI for the year as well as Pension if you had a company one (will not show private pension plan).

I got one of these three weeks ago.
This thing that made me loose my cool was that the amount I owe was one sixty-six.
That's not one hundred and sixty six thousand pounds!!!!
That’s one pound sixty six.
£1.66!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They sent a shed load of paperwork, advice booklets and reply paid envelope for one pound sixty six.
I wasted to pay them in stamps but my wife suggested I shouldn’t aggravate them.

Hmmm, I think it was a bit less than I'm on now. And when working yours out, don't forget all your other earnings, like the millions you earnt from your gigging days as a rock god...
