Angry The most expensive foglamp bulb in the world? Probably.......

Just noticed yesterday that one of the foglight bulbs on the wife's Xantia wasn't working.

I couldn't see how to do it, so I referred to the handbook It just says "Refer to dealer".

Today I was quoted £95 +VAT to do the job

Apparently, to get at the bulb, the whole front bumper has to come off

What a Fred Karnot's set up

I think she can do without:

Sounds a bit like the 206 GTi front head light. I couldn't see a way to get to them, the covers on the back were hard up against the engine - nice design!

In the end had to take the headlight unit out the front which involved taking all the front grill out as well as most of the bumper assembly.

must be a French thing (Pug/Citroen) ....

.... I used to have a 405, and to change the healdlight lens had to take the grill off and loosen the bumper (not to mention the involuntary loss of a large amount of knuckle skin in the process!)

Possibly a deliberate ploy by some manufacturers so that you have to pay ££££'s for them to sort.

s'only a front foglight, you shoud hardly ever have to use them so I'd just leave it. don't think front fogs are part of the mot either.

Isn't it the case that if you have the light, it needs to work?

Could always drill a nice hole through the front of the lens to get to it

My neighbour's got a Rover 75 and to change the sidelight ie. the outside lense, you have to do it through the wheel-arch. Prolly the same for the pseudo MG's too.

Front fogs are not part of the MOT, back ones are however,

sounds like a bargain, my mate went in to a seat dealer a few years back for £20's worth of wiper arm and walked out buying a £10000 gti

PAH! thats nothing!!!

VW Beetle (New shape), Early cars have Front fogs. To change the bulb, you have to remove the bumper and front wings! Thats 4 hours labour straight away!!!

The later cars VW decided to move the screw holding the light in, to a place where it could be accessed without doing all this!

Most cars these days are designed to be put together and not taken apart!!!

(cept by main dealers)

2 to avoid now they will be become attractivly priced!!!!!!

rover 75 V6 these are now comming up to there 75k big service!!!!

big is not the word... the plugs need changing...

the rear bank of plugs cannot be accessed from the engine bay,,,

to change them you must remove a major part of the bulkhead from inside of the car.... labour time 7hrs!!!!!!!!!!!

even main dealers are being reported to by shying away from this one!!!

2) mondeo... if the clutch goes........engine out jobby to change...

and its going to get worse......

as the new cars cram more into the limited space they dont have!!!!!
