Nikon F301
Wonder if any of the resident photographic experts on here could give me some help on a camera.
I've been given the chance to purchase a Nikon F-301 Camera, with Vivitar Auto 2x Custom Tele-Converter & Kiron 70-210mm Zoom Lens for a fairly cheap sum.
Is it worth it? Are these cameras decent? I know the Nikon brand is a good one, am just wondering about the lens and camera. Any drawbacks with this camera?
Thanks.

I had a F501 many moons ago, basically the 301 with AF.
I loved it! Apart from the AF which was too slow, but this was 17 years ago I guess.
The F301's features were really sweet, but it is pretty bulky and heavy. Moved to an Olympus OM2n after that, which then died and now have a Pentax MZ-M as the old Nikon put my off AF!
How much are they after?

Depends what you are after, Nikon lenses are superb, sadly the zooms are not Nikon. Vivitar are so so, Kiron I have never heard of and 2x convertors are generally a waste of time as you loose at least 1 if not more f-stops which is not good when you are on a long lens anyway.
The body will be well built being a Nikon and should remain reliable for many years. See if he still has the prime 50 Mil lens as that should be a peach for most things. If not you have to ask yourself what you want it for. I still have my SLR, a Ricoh with a plethora of lenses etc, but tend to use the digital or the Kodak Advatix as it is a pain the *** carrying all the kit about

I'm basically looking to get a more "serious" camera for when I do planned shots, as opposed to the "that looks good"-snap type things.
He's only after £60 for the whole lot listed above, so I think I'll buy it and have a play.
Thanks for everyone's replies.

For £60 you can't go wrong really.
Try and source an original standard lens second hand or try ebay even. Might be a good plan to get hold of some Tamron lenses as well, as they are dead easy to change the mounts on, so if you decide that the Nikon isn't for you and want something else, you can keep the lenses.
