Default Tree Removal

I'm starting to remove the cherry tree that stands in my front garden in about 10 minutes, but someone has just mentioned something about the council doing you if you remove a tree without their permission.

Is this true? What can they do, it's my tree on my property and it's roots are getting ridiculous, plus when it fruits all the birds sit in it eating the cherries, taking the **** out of my cat and ****ting on my Scoob.

**** it, it's coming down anyway, but am I legal?

you only need to notify the council if you live within a conservation area (ie area of particular architectural character or interest - wimpy homes etc need not apply ) or if the tree is protected by a TPO then you need to apply for permission to remove it. if it's just a poxy cherry tree in your front drive, it's unlikely to be TPO'd.

oh and btw - if you remove it unlawfully they can fine you up to £20,000.

it is poxy, it's a Barratts home and it's coming down

I don't think anywhere in Runcorn would ever be considered architectually anything

you should be ok then. the only thing to consider is sometimes the tree planting schemes on new estates were specified as part ofthe planning permission, and the trees are therefore protected. seems unlikely that anyone in runcorn will really GAS, though.

most councils can't be bothered to prosecute people for tree removal in any case. if anything came of it you'd probably get away with pleading ignorance and promising to plant some nice pansies in its place.

OK, second tree removal question. What the **** do I now do with all these twigs and branches? It didn't look that big when it was up in the air!

My mate has taken all the decent bits for his open fire and reckons it'll last him 12 months. The crap thats left will probably take about 400 visits to the tip in the Scoob

We tried to burn it on the common land next to my house, but a couple of neighbours (especially those overlooking the "landscaped area") didn't think it was such a good idea

I think a trip to B&Q for a galvanised incinerator is needed.

rofl @ Dave

Off to HSS with you for a shredder for the day. Feed the branches in & out comes wood-chip. Either bin it, burn it or spread it over your borders to cut down on weeding

The stump you might have to dig out. Spade, axe & a long bit of 4x2 to jump on to lever it out (dig hole underneath first) - axe for the roots...

I've got the same problem - just cut down about 12 wild pear trees (hedge) that had not been touched for 10 years so 25/30 ft high. I've got enough logs for next year (when dry) and an enormous pile of branches. Luckily I don't have neighbours and the farmer is coming along with a bale for a GOOD bonfire when the wind is right He's also got a **** off tractor thingy that'll scoop the branches up & save me having to

I'm not keen on the shredder idea, I'd end up with a pile of chips with nowhere to put them (no borders and a small wheelie bin)

i'm sure joe p*key will be round within a few hours - he'll transport the rubbish to the nearest convenient fly-tip location for a small fee.

Dave

Load the chips into a coupla placcy sacs & take'em to the local council recycling place - green container. You will be amazed at how little space they take up once "chipped".

Or drop 'em all over the local common land - The Great Escape stylee

12 bloody bin sacks full!

Mind you, HSS were excellent. I was gonna hire the biggest baddest chipper and they said "nah, the £20 one works best and is the cheapest"

Quite satisfying destroying natures hard work. No more cleaning tree sap or quite as much bird **** off the Scooby

Now, who wants some wood chippings?

Cherry trees are really bad for putting up runners all over the place. Might be worth driling the stump and pouring in some full strength weedkiller like roundup. This will finish the thing off for good and you dont have to worry about little cherry trees springing up all over the place!
