Driver fined after hit-and-run death

A motorist who "panicked" and drove off after an accident in which a cyclist died, has been fined £750.
Cardiff Crown Court heard that artist Kristie Meredith, 28, admitted careless driving after knocking 34-year-old David Lewis off his bike.

The court heard Meredith "panicked" after the crash and drove home before finally turning herself into police the following day.

The court heard that Mr Lewis, cycling to his home in the Lakeside area, was killed instantly when he wasthrown over the top of her car.

Meredith, a fine arts graduate, admitted careless driving and failing to stop at the scene of an accident.

Meredith, from Blackwood, was fined a total of £750 and had nine penalty points put on her licence.

Meredith also admitted she had been drinking lager before the incident occured.

£750. I know people who have been fined this amount for speeding after their points tally had risen to 12. Its pathetic.

There was another one yesterday when an illegal immigrant killed a 9 yr old in a hit and run accident.

He got 24 months but most of this (16months) was for having a false passport and 8 months for having no licence, insurance, tax and failing to report an accident.

If he'd been booted out like they all should be then this little lad would still be with us.

Now weve got to pay for him to stay in one of our prison as well. They should stick him and all the other non legal immigrants, asylum seekers on a boat and send them off to wherever. When will this Gov learn that we do not want or need these people here.

Unfortunately, have to agree with MGJohn:

Britain has been bending over for anyone and everyone since the end of WW2

A friend of mine was knocked off his bike by a hit and run driver a few years back. Luckily he survived, albeit with serious injuries that took him 2 years to recover from. When he was hit, he was left lying in the middle of an unlit, busy, high speed road (he was fully kitted up with lights/hi-viz jacket etc but by this time they were a little worse for wear)

The driver in that case got 3 points and £250 fine. If he'd beaten my friend into the same state he'd have got a prison sentence.

Obviously accidents happen, but anyone who leaves the scene of an accident should be tried as if they intended to cause the injuries/death.
