Smile I'm going to Val d'Isere.

Hi everybody.

I've just booked a last minute skiing holiday to Val d'Isere this weekend.
Its cheap but the forecast looks like it might be a little bit windy.

Does any body have some good tips of where and where not to go as to regards the night life and things to do if the weather gets bad ?!?

All comments are appreciated.

You have to try Dick's T Bar in the centre of town. Fairly legendary for years, though not what it once was.

Just come back from val and it was the best week skiing and drinking I have ever done!!!

Dicks Tea bar is a total rip off (6.50 a pint) but a bloody good night.

club 21 is a better night out and cheaper.

Other good pubs are Pacific Bar, Saloon Bar, Petit Danonios (sp?)

Petit Danonies also serves great food in the day.

If you want anymore information about ski areas etc let me know.

Have a great time.

Thumbs down

Being stupid enough to have gone to Val d'Isere twice, I think it is a vastly overrated dump, both full of itself and, worse, full of noisy Brits - shudder

As for nightlife, it's basically turn either right or left out of your accommodation, walk 100 yards max, and you'll find some

Couldn't agree more Dave, nowhere near as good as I was expecting after hearing so much about it. Can't think of anything it had that was better than your average French ski resort, maybe the shopping but who goes on a ski holiday to shop ?

it depends what you want from Val. If you want high snowsure skiing, and good lift served off-piste, it rates very highly.

Thumbs down Not keen ...

I am sure you will have a top time but IMHO, I agree with Dave.
I am a big fan of Italy myself.

Whatever though, enjoy the snow!

Just got back from there and must say that it was pretty good.
Easy to pull the women and not too expensive at seasonaire prices !
Off piste was ok ish but needed more powder. The best skiing was deffo out of the ski area and the other side of the tape !!!

The Face for one.......

Much better ski areas around than Val d'isere though.....Monte Rosa in Italy, the Val Thorens end of the trois vallais, Alpe D'Huez, La Rosiere/La Thuile, Cervinia/Zermatt, to name a few........

Default Jimmys.

Did a season in VDI a while ago.
Best place then was called Jimmys I think, bar above the Casino supermarket.
Did a drink called an Attitude Adjuster, 7 shots in one glass!
3 of those would give you plenty of problems getting up the next day.

Cafe Face is good though I'd agree and Dicks if you can afford it.
Just tell them your a seasonnaire and pays less..................

Did you find the area at the top of the drag lift in La Fornet ?
Pretty steep bowls there. Sum real steep and deep stuff.

If you don't like the snow conditions just ski 50metres to the left or right and sure enough you will find some you like
