If you are after a hard disk based system you need to look at IPOD v Creative labs - both have their strengths and weeknesses - Creative labs are much cheaper and better value for money but don't look as nice and a larger than the IPOD..

I got an i-bead 150 for chrimbo. Well happy with it. About £160 but cheaper than ipod.
Basically its a 256mb USB pen drive that plays music and has a radio. Charges by USB as well in 3hrs and lasts 14.

Well depending on the bit rate you rip your MP3 at, a CD's worth will equate to approx 15-30 Mb. So 30,000 Mb / 20 Mb = 1500 CD's worth
And I know there isn't 1000 Mb in a Gb, but as track sizes vary quite a bit it is all approximate anyway

I got a usb pen affair with 250Mb of space which is plenty for most uses, about 10 cd's worth. Also usful for data transfer and it also has a mic built in, can record about 40 hrs of stuff in .voc format then convert to MP3 on your desktop. It came from www.iwoot.com
