I've decided, at some point in my life, I'm gonna visit the railway station they go to in the middle of nowhere I'm not some saddo annorak btw I quite fancy wandering up the hill Tommy points to!
Does anyone know where it is or how to get to it?
Thanks in advance

Rannoch Station
Edited to add that I was sad enough to take a taxi ride just so I could see the now departed 'Volcano' club.

The main problem with the film is that many of the scenes are shot in Glasgow.
The school that Kelly McDonald goes to is in Glasgow, as are some of the clubs they use. The A&E entrance is also not Edinburgh.
Spoils it a bit for me when not all filmed in Edinburgh.

As was shallow grave - the only bits filmed in Edinburgh are the scene settings tours around the new town
I always thought that the station in trainspotting was Corrour station - the next one up the West Highland Line from Rannoch Moor
There is absoulutely **** all there though IIRC you can't even get to it by road
Edited to add that to get to it you can jump on a train from Glasgow headed for Fort William. Its a long journey but probably one of the most scenic in the UK

Apparently Edinburgh wasnt run down enough (anymore) Imlach. You should be glad. At least it was actually shot in Scotland rather than Ireland which seems to attract most of the 'supposed to be in Scotland' films now-a-days

Shortly after they visit the train station....
TOMMY: Doesn't it make you proud to be Scottish?
RENTON: I hate being Scottish. We're the lowest of the fvcking low, the scum of the earth, the most wretched, servile, miserable, pathetic trash that was ever shat into civilization. Some people hate the English, but I don't. They're just w@nkers. We, on the other hand, are colonized by w@nkers. We can't even pick a decent culture to be colonized by. We are ruled by effete @rseholes. It's a sh!te state of affairs and all the fresh air in the world will not make any fvcking difference.
Best speech in the world that, couldn't have written it better myself

Jye - rubbish.
Craigmillar was (and still is in bits) run down enough to use (scene in film where he gets picked up by the taxi to be taken to A&E).
I suspect it was just easier to do it in Glasgow as a bigger city and probably easier to get permission perhaps - ie, 50 times more clubs in Glasgow than Edinburgh......also, location of crew maybe made it easier to do in Glasgow. Who knows.
All I know is that more could have been done in Edinburgh as the original locations in the book do exist and were still "run-down" when filmed in 1995.

Imlach, I did say apparently, and this was the excuse 'they' the fim makers used, not me
I know Edinburgh has plenty of 'rough' <cough>edges still

I am not sure, but the film where he got picked up in the taxi before going to A&E may actually be Craigmillar in the film as well - not sure. Certainly similar - same style of 2/3 storey council house and desserted streets with no cars (it still is like that in bits!).
Think Craigmillar is mentioned in the book? Long time since I read it.........

Cheers for the replies guys I knew SN wouldn't let me down!
Looks like a long drive from Yorkshire then a short rail trip, cool!
eclaire, Renton's rant is my favourite bit of the film and ^^ is my favourite line, it has me in stitches every time! Spud's sheets are a close second though
Thanks again!
