Digital Cameras, where to buy ?
#2
Letsgodigital.com are superb IMHO. Failing that, walk into jessops with an issue of any camera mag, and get 'em to price match.
Do play with the camera before you buy though.

My usual suppliers are Park Cameras and Warehouse Express. Top service and cheap too.

Try a 'search' on digital cameras - did that myself when I bought recently. Cheapest price I got (for a Canon A70) was at Amazon. Went into Jessops in Reading and they price matched. They say they will price match an UK based internet supplier. Best take a printout of the relevant web page though.
Also bought a case with them but got the extra memory (and you WILL need more!) and rechargable batteries online ....

A80 is a cracking good camera. I recommend it to everyone I know but I don't actually own one myself (just used one for four weeks).
As above, shop about online. Get a printout of a price (UK based) and go into Jessops for a price match. That way you get the best of both worlds, i.e. no hassle if it goes wrong but low price.

Used this company on 4 occassions:
Internet Cameras Direct
and got excellent service and free next day delivery every time.
Could not find cheaper deals from any other reputable online dealer.

I used buyacamera recently and they were cool.
Canon Ixus had a dead pixel so I took it to their offices nearby and they swapped with no questions.
Had a cool shelf full of cameras as well, sort of a history from old to new.

Best thing to do is to find the cheapest place available for ayour required camera then get Jessops to price match it.
Personally id rather buy from a high street store rather than an internet based company. At least you know if anything goes wrong you can take it back immediately without having to post it etc.
Did that and saved quite a bit.

I recently bought an A70 and it's fantastic! Looked at the A80 but thought £60+ extra for a flip out screen was a bit much. The A70 is the same camera but without the flip out screen, it even has the ability to add SLR type lenses. Fair enough it has 0.8mega pixels less but who's going to notice that ?
Got mine from a shop in Warwick but try www.pricerunner.com to compare them.
I got mine between christmas and New Year and really struggled to find either an A70 or A80 anywhere but I should think it'll be back in stock by now.

A friend of mine bought the current Olympus (5 Megapixel) camera from Amazon.
It worked fine for a week or so then started playing up. She let Amazon know that there was an issue with it and it was replaced in about 10 days (bearing in mind it was over the Christmas period)
She's was really happy with the price and dispatch, and highly impressed with the customer support offered by Amazon.
I hope this helps some of you who want to order online!

My mate who works and Fuji advised that the Olympus and Kodak lenses arent as good as the Canon or Fuji ones. They have a greater pixel count but the picture quality is not much better as the lens doesnt provide a sharp enough image on the CCD to appreciate the greater pixel count (if you see what I mean).
Basically, theres not a lot of point having loads of pixels if the lens is made of cling film

I bought a DV camcorder from http://www.ajelectronics.co.uk/ - it was delivered by courier in 2 days (week before Christmas), and I saved about 30% on the RRP/highstreet price. A very efficient service.

Another hi-jack... anyone know of any good sub £150 buys around in the high street, could do with one for the weekend, so mail order is out of the equation.

Have reserved a Canon A80 at Wildings in Wilmslow, very helpful considering I was expection them to be well pricey (Thier website says 320 quid) and its 280, Amazon do it for 269 but to be honest I would rather shop local at a local shop for local people, if it goes wrong no posting it off and there is a better chance of me getting it home than it arriving in one peice by post, unless I stop off at the boozer that it.
