Re: Shattered. What's the longest you've ever stayed awake?

Without the assistance of specialised pharmaceuticals of course
Only caffeine, nicotine and alcohol allowed. My best is 65 hours .... followed by 18 hours kip
I wouldn't like to have been driving after 48 hours though, it started getting wierd on the third day

BB - why did you stay awake that long? i'm doing well to manage 12 hours without a quick snooze...
drug assisted i think i managed about 48 hours (in my youth, of course), but even that was a bit taxing on the inner sense of wellbeing.

Only about 54/55 hours - used to work Mon-Fri 9-5 then on a Friday evening I used to drive to WH Smith wholsale wharehouse and then deliver papers / magazines all round Gatwick / Redhill areas from 11pm to 8 / 9am.
Then I'd be back at my fulltime job from 11am on Saturday doing overtime then repeat the process at WH Smith on a Saturday night / Sunday morning followed by a game of 5 a side at the Angel Centre at 11am Sunday!
However I do now realise it was very stoopid driving a 3.5T Iveco truck suffering with bad sleep deprevation!

I managed about 67 hours once when at Uni in France. Tuesday morning until Friday morning! I was driving back from Bordeaux and we had some car issues, a police chase followed and we hid for a bit We had by this stage missed the Tuesday night ferry at Caen. The next ferry was the following evening and I couldn't sleep. Didn't then sleep on the ferry and was up all day Thursday until just after 3a.m Friday as I'd been in France for a few months and was catching up with mates.
Thank God for caffeine and chocolate! LOL

ProperCharlie -- with me it was revision for re-taking my 2nd year exams at Bradford. If I'd failed, I'd have had to retake the year with no grant and no fees paid, so I was suitably incentivised

48 hours. Was many years ago when I was a lot younger! Had to get a specific print job out asap, it was some HMSO white paper on something, and thus required someone to oversee it all, and that was me.
Got some very nice overtime for it too, so I was not too bothered about it.
did sleep for a fair while after though

I once stayed awake for nearly three days when I was 16. Three of us decided to stay up for as long as possible after an all-nighter. We ended up nodding off sometime around lunchtime on the third day without even realising. We didn't hallucinate or anything but it felt like a really bad come down off speed (no I hadn't taken any that weekend). The tempation to snooze was far too great and I found myself staring into space for what seemed like hours for no reason what so ever. I was gutted when I woke up 12 hours later... but very comfy.

I used to be involved with 24 hour Endurance race teams and that required long time awake.
In 1992 at Spa I went four days with no sleep. Thursday night we had night practice and then things were going on through the night.
Friday was a full engine rebuild through the night and Saturday was the race. After the first few days you sort of half shut down and exist in a zombie state. I think the petrol fumes from the pits kept us awake. Finally on the Sunday afternoon, I left the circuit to ride to the border with France and fell asleep whilst riding my bike. I just managed to stop at side of road, get off bike and immediately fall asleep for a few hours.
