Question

Looking to get a Widescreen TV pretty soon - either 28 or 32 inch. Is it worth paying the extra to get 100Hz?

Cheapest 100Hz 32 inch I can find is a Sharp for about £570, though for £700 I could get a Sony Trinitron Wega Screen 100Hz - is the Sony worth the extra?

The TV we've got now is just a bog standard 4 year old 21 inch. We just want something bigger that will have a better picture. Am I aiming too high?

I saw a 50Hz and a 100Hz Sony side by side, and had to buy the 100Hz. It was just so much better. Got the 32" WEGA for around £700 as you say (£900 in Sony Centre )

Just bought a Panasonic TX28PS12 and DVD recorder and am chuffed to bits with them. 100hz is fantastic if you've got digital, on analogue it really shows the inadequacies (SP?) of the signal, I couldn't beleive the difference.

Theres certainly some mega deals from the online retailers at the moment.

He he...I beat you too it (see thread on "cheapest 100hz TV" )

After replacing our old 21" square mono piece of crap with a 32" 100hz Philips with the Dolby - it's 1000 times worth it

You don't notice the flicker or how crap 50hz tubes are until you watch a 100hz for a while...then go and watch a 50hz TV afterwards - they are awful in comparison. If you can afford it - go for it

IMO Sony aren't as good as they used to be. I have been told from several sources that some of their stuff is now based on stuff like LG (like their low-end LCD screens). Can't comment on it's validity (before Sony decide to see this as slander - it's my opinion )

When I started looking about 18 months ago, I just could not see the reason for 100Hz.........that was until I saw two TVs side by side, one a 100Hz, the other not, but a very well regarded make.
I bought the Toshiba 32zp18b, as wifey liked the narrow screen surround.(So it doesn't overwhelm our lounge which is only 26 feet by 13 feet!!!)

Cool

Someone gave me the following piece of advice about TV's, Buy the best you can afford.

Sounds simple but I bought a 32" Sony WEGA 2 years ago, it cost me a mint but it's fantastic.

As for 100Hz, yes it is better but not massively when watching tv. Just be a bit aware that you can get some odd effects sometimes when watching some programs. On football or sport, you can get a wierd ghosting behind the ball when it's moving quickly on a live feed. Also on some programs, the credits scroll across rather than up and if they're quick you can't read them on 100Hz.

What I do is normally run at 100Hz but switch to 50 if I find it's a problem.

Myself, if you can push to the price, go for a 32" Sony.

There's only any point in 100Hz sets if you still watch VHS videos or analogue TV. It makes little or no difference to digital sources.

Little bit misleading that last statement. 100Hz technology can also makes a significant difference if you are using your DVD player to view still photographs. To be honest, the chips have come down in price to such an extent that it is now part of most mid-range TVs (and just about all high end models). Go for the 100 Hz.
