Question

Anyone got a recommendations for a 100hz Widescreen TV. 28 or 32 inch (is 32" worth the extra?).I like the idea of integrated Dolby Digital on the Philips sets as they come with two Infrared rear speakers. Anyone got one? I know a seperated Dolby Dig amp is meant to be the way to go but I'm struggling for space for the box and extra speakers. Would love to buy Sony as most of the rest of my kit is Sony too but they don't do a Dolby Dig integrated set as yet.. Budget up to £1000 (ish!)

Cool

get a sony - get a seperate DD/DTS amp - most TV's with DD built in come with poor speakers or sound output..

Look at rear projection TV's from toshiba. You get a far larger screen size for the money. A 1000 quid will get you a 32 inch widescreen set, 1200 quid(max) will get you a 40 inch screen if you go rear projection..

. . . but be careful with rear projection TV's. Can be problematic with DVD players and macrovision.

Check compatibility first

100Hz Tosh WHB40 etc should set u back £1300 quid - you can get the Dolby Dig model for a few quid more, but it is crap, and doesn't even have a centre speaker - put it towards an AV Amp. I laso use the subwoofer from the Scooby (bit of a haul up and down the stairs!) but it sounds good and saves it getting nicked!

Dont be scared when you see this proj TV from 2 foot away, and 2 foot above in a hyper bright showroom - it looks FAB in a real living room at 7 foot away. Also with a proj Tv any pic blow ups or zoom outs you do are done optically and look much better than CRT sets.

Toshiba 32" 100mhz, stunning picture. Just a shame you can't buy it without all the Dolby digital decoding. But worth it even if you don't use the on board stuff, just for the clarity of the picture. Plus, the picture frame styling means it is smaller than other 32's.

Thanks Guys

My current set is a big(ish) Nicam Toshiba that I've been generally happy with and I like the look of their new "low profile" widescreen sets. Where can I get a good deal though as the 32 incher looks pricier than the Philips equivalent?

I bought a 50Hz 32" Toshiba 6 months ago and compared to other 100Hz models from Sony, Philips and others, the picture is as good and was better than some.

It cost me 800 quid, and has stereo speakers. I do all the nice sound thru a Denon AV amp.
