I know that but to be honest it means nothing yet tell me that 15000 britons have died in a freak accident and I would be shocked to the core............... make of that what you will.

Nope,
Just think its disgusting that this country wastes so much momney on some things then when something like this comes along we give a measly £150,000.
After all it is my money anyway.

SCOTTISH ENTERPRISE was under fire last night for spending more than £500,000 of taxpayers’ money rebranding its business advice centres twice in just three years.
In 2000 it changed the name of its Business Shops to Small Business Gateway at a cost of £298,000.
Tthis year it dropped the word “small” in a second rebranding exercise which cost another £269,000.
The money was spent on redesigning logos, signs, internal decor and also on redesigning and producing literature.
Earlier this week the Auditor General criticised Scottish Enterprise for spending more than a fifth of its £500,000 budget last year on consultants.

NO, I thought it was very 'on topic', unless I misunderstand what you define as 'wastes so much money'. ??????

Just my 2p's worth.
1) Terribly sad. About 20,000 dead and 30,000 injured. Compare say, with wiping out a small town in UK.
2) Having little "feeling" for the victims is simply because they are more distant. If, for example, you had ever travelled to the region (I haven't) and appreciated its true beauty and warmth of the people then you would feel a lot different.
3) £150k is not much but it is something and I think efficiently used. Those trained "sniff 'em out" dogs for example make a real difference.
4) I just wish Bush and his cronies would realise that if the USA really gave a substantial helping input they might actually win some friends in the Arab region as "good guys". Just think if they spent just 1/10th of what they spent on the Iraq war (which merely stirred up a terrorist hornet's nest, IMO) what a difference it might make. And a much more satisfying job for the troops.
Sorry about rant. David

Well, I donated some money via the Red Cross. Sad ? Silly ? Naive ? Perhaps. Sure. Sue me.
As silly as the money I donated to the NY fire department in 2001.
Both tragic events, both deserve our attention. IMHO.
