Just got a letter from DVLA advising that I did not complete a SORN for my (garaged) Saab

Should I pay this or fight it - the car has been in a garage since July (tax expired 30Sep03).

???

Why havent I had a similar letter for my bike as the tax on that expired in April?

Edited to say that should read June NOT April!

Also don,t forget that from 1/1/04 if u fail to retax a vehicle 1 month after old tax expired you will be prosecuted. Although dont think it will apply to anyone on scoobynet.

Seriously, how fecking hard is it to fill in the form? It costs nothing other than 30 seconds of your time.

I'm the laziest man who ever lived and I can still manage to fill in a bloody form

Just tell them that declared sorn on the reminder and posted it back to them. If they've lost it then its their look out.

The SORN procedure has been in place for a couple of years now and you always get a reminder of it at renewal time. They're only just starting to enforce it which is a good thing IMO. Alot of the ******* who drive without tax should get caught out eventually (except the ones who don't re-register their vehicles).

I'm not sure how the DVLA can be accused of being w@nkers when all you have to do is put a cross in a box and take the reminder into a post office It doesn't cost anything FFS.

And no, I don't work for the DVLA, I just can't believe people complain when they get fined for not carrying out a simple, free procedure, you've only got yerself to blame.....

Sent the letter back stating that I had already posted a SORN to the DVLA.

"Under the circumstances I am pleased to confirm that the charge has been waived......."

Does this apply to historic vehicles??

A friend of my dad's has vhicles that are pre 1973 (historic vehicles) and havent been on the road for 40 yrs! Surely he doenst have to fill in a SORN for these?

I have a 1969 Beetle in the garage too, which hasnt been on the road since the last owner took it off the road 4 yrs ago. So, was it their responsibility to do a SORN? or mine?
