Is this available for examination by the public.If not ,why not? After seeing all the stuff about Huntley, makes you wonder who's living next to you doesnt it.

The bloke who was done for trying to "procure" a nine-year old girl over the internet lived a few streets from me. In fact, we looked at buying a house in that street. I am led to believe that someone on the sexual offenders register lives next to one of the primary schools in the town. Don't know which though.

I think they should publish the names of convicted pedophiles, people should have the write to know who's living next door.

Plus give out free cricket bats.

Maybe not publish it in newspapers etc but I think the police do have a duty to inform people with kids if a Paedo or whatever is living near to you.

looking at the register would have been pointless in Huntley's case, because he wouldn't have been on it....because until now he's never actually been convicted of anything...

The register should be able to be viewed by anyone who wishes to look at it!! The sick ***** on it don't deserve a life after what they have done to others!! They should face a life of misery and wondering if round the next corner there is someone out to seek revenge on them!! In my opinion they should be excecuted when proven guilty but British law being the way it is its never gonna happen. The only way to keep these perverted b4stards off the streets is to make evry one aware of who and what they have done!! This way at least the majority will stay off the streets because there to scared to go out and if they do go out then they do so at there own risk!! I know if i ever found out who was one living in my area i and several of my friends would make there pitiful lives a living hell!! I will now step down off my soapbox and allow others to use it!!

The register includes *all* sex offenders, including 16 year boys convicted of sex with their 15 year old girlfriends etc, not just kiddie fiddlers.

And no I'm not on it! But before you turn up with a baseball bat at someone's house you should consider that they might not be what *you* consider a pedophile. I wonder how many posters on here *could* have qualified for the register in their youth?

Agreed, but I doubt many 16 year boys expect a posse to turn up at their house 20 years later because they're on "the sex offenders list" for a decades-old teenage indiscretion.

A lot of people *could* be on that list.

better still.....dont bother because the public will NEVER get to see the list...and this thread shows why.

Agree with Tiggs, the reason the list is not available is because of the attitudes demonstrated above! Guy I know of is on the list cos he streaked at a football match!! would you pay him a visit?

Speaking of this behaviour, there is an incident happening at my sisters school. She is 8 years old.

An old guy regularly waits at the end of school time in his car (an old porsche) and just stares at the children. He watches them, he does not pick any children up from the school , no onerecognises him.

The headmaster has the reg of the vehicle and has informed the police of suspicious behaviour but as always they cannot do anything because he hasnt actually done anything wrong. Parents and kids duly notified aswell.

Is there any other course of action that can be taken ? (apart from the obvious) .. we have also thought about appraching the person in a civil manner to ask what he wants , what he is doing.

A teacher at my kids school was accused of rape but the case didnt get to court as the woman in quetion didnt want to testify. His job was therefore safe as he wasnt found guilty even though he had been tried before for rape(also acquited).

He didnt last long in the school though as he resigned before someone kicked f*** out of him.

Brett - I'd go and talk to the chap and ask what he's up to. better to do it now, then look back when a kid goes missing (god hopes it don't happen) and then it turns out it was him.

As said by others, the register will never be publically accessible, which is a good thing and a bad thing. Would be nice to know if a convited sex offender is living in your street or next door.

here's a question for you, let's say you are a landlord, and a new tennant applies, could you, as a landlord, ask someone, guess the police, to check the register on your behalf, so you can find out if your possible new tennant is on the register? Just curious as I know I'd not want some convicted pedophile renting a place from me.
