Just moved into a new house. Not got any means of contacting the previous owner, so I was wondering how I go about finding out who supplies my electricity & gas?
S'pose I could just wait for a bill to arrive, but I wanted to contact them with my initial meter readings and start paying ASAP rather than 6 months down the line!
Any ideas? Is there a central place to contact? Thanks in advance.

You could always just stay with whoever you used at your old place.
Call them up, tell them you've moved, and they should sort out the rest.
Thats what i did when i moved 2 months ago.

Phone Transco and your Regional Electricity Board listed in the phone book. They supply the actual utilities and will be able to tell you who currently provides the bills and customer service for the property.

If its a new estate like where i live, they may not have used Transco for gas (may have used someone like ELFgas).
Contact Energywatch and they should be able to help you find out.

Marvellous!
Phoned Transco (as suggested) and found out I'm with British Gas. Then used the Energywatch website to find my local Electricity supplier. Tried Manweb first .. nope, and then United Utilities .. bingo!
Cheers for that.
