Sorry
Just got a Jessops catalogue cos someone in my family wants one for Xmas.
Any idea on the new Canon 300D. 300D Link Here
Its a fair bit cheaper (£900)than the other Canon Digi SLRs but has got the 6+Mp effective on it.
Next one up in the range with a lens is £1500 EOS 10D 10D Link Here

Different markets. 300D is the budget one, 10D semi-professional.
It's not all about mega-pixels. Since I have the 300V SLR, the 300D would be a good way for someone like myself to get into digital as the lenses are compatible and gives much more flexibility over a fixed lens compact.
The 10D gets rave reviews from the users on here, but I've no idea how it compares to the 300D. Certainly a BIG price gap, so guess it depends on what it's going to be used for to justify the extra cost.
You could always get the 10D 2nd-hand if performance is more important than simply cost.

10D and 300D have the same sensor and can use the same lenses, so picture quality is the same. The 10D is better built and has more user adjustable functions, but the 300D is about £500 cheaper.
Seeing as Canon will probably bring out an improved model sooner rather than later, I think you are better off 'making do' with the 300D for now. That's what I've done, anyway
The bottom line is that the 300D is capable of fantastic image quality, digital doesn't get much better. The limiting factor will be your ability to spot a great photo opportunity

Sensor on 10D and 300D is actually different. It just happens to produce a 6.3 megapixel image on both. But they are different, different design, different electronics, different fab and different country where they are made.
</pedant mode>
Anyway, 10D is mag ally bodied and black and the 300D is polycarb bodied and silver. Apart from that they are similar in functionality but electronics etc. all different. 300D doesn't have some of the features the 10D has, but not as many as you would think based on the price difference.
Anyway, that is all pointless info. The 300D will produce an image that is near as dammit the same as a 10D. And that is what counts.
It is common knowledge that Canon are expected to announce a new body early next year. Wisdom in the DSLR circles suggest a 1D replacement.
Cheers
